USC Dramatic Arts - Invitation to Open House April 5, 2014

D received invitation to Open House but has yet to hear from school re admission. What does this mean relative to the admission process, if anything?

Did you receive the invitation by snail mail or email?
Thanks.

Last year, this meant an acceptance, if I remember correctly.

Just got the invitation in the mail. My D applied to the BFA and BA. From reading the posts from last year, it looks like good news.

It is good news! My son received one last year and he was accepted into the BFA program two weeks after receiving the invite. I believe the invite went to BA’s as well. My son loves the program at USC.

For those who received the invitation, what part of the US are you in? Thanks!

We’re in Texas and my daughter received an invitation yesterday (3/21).

We are in Chicago and received ours in the mail today (3/22). Not at all sure what it means. S auditioned for BFA and later told them he would consider BA.

Received an invitation today in Colorado. D applied for the BA. Very confusing - will wait for an actual decision.

We are in Connecticut. Nothing…

We are in Chicago and received this same invitation in the mail today (3/22). D auditioned for BFA. We did receive good news yesterday. D was accepted to the Theatre School at Depaul University in Chicago.

@rdhmom Congrats on DePaul!

I did find on the USC website that decisions will be mailed on March 26 and available on the portal at noon Pacific time on March 29

But the invitation to the open house has proven in the past to be be pre acceptance news, so congrats!

Over on the University of Southern California forum on CC, there is a thread about this. In summary, the posts indicate If you go to your USC Connect account, and click on the Financial Aid link, you MAY see “Undergraduate” and your major listed. Others have reported seeing “Unknown” listed. Students who were invited to the scholarship interviews have “Undergraduate,” their “Major,” and then their actual merit award listed now. Others show “Pending Action” instead of an actual merit award or other financial aid details.

For what it’s worth - D’s portal shows “Undergraduate” and “Theatre,” with “Pending” for the financial aid award.

Some posters feel this is an indication of admittance; others feel that the system is in the process of updating, and an “Unknown” listing is not a definitive sign of a rejection.

No invite and unknown on financial aid…

Thanks @mountainhiker. Ours also says Undergraduate and Theatre. But I assume this could be the BA or the BFA…or if it is the BFA does it show something other than theatre…maybe Acting?

compadv - I don’t know . . . D applied for the BA, and her status shows “Theatre.”

If I didn’t receive the invitation should I infer that I’m not being considered for admission? My financial aid portal says “Unknown”

Same concern.

Thanks all for the comments. D just checked financial aid portal and status shows undergraduate, theatre (acting). D auditioned for BFA as first and BA as second.
