USC Engineering Professor Golomb to Receive National of Science

<p>Distinguished Professor Sol Golomb will receive the National Medal of Science. He is the Viterbi Professor of Communications in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Professor Golomb is an internationally known expert and inventor. The Golomb codes are at the heart of the Mars Rover's deep space communications. Along with many other contributions to science he invented the idea of polyominoes.</p>

<p>At SC he is one of four Shannon Award winners, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Earlier in his career he was named to the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.</p>
