Hi, I just joined CC and this is my first post
I got back from many colleges past week and I found out I got into University of Southern California.
I waz kinda happy till i checked the website and student review that USC's fitness center/weight room iz really baddd and got me worried cuz weight room and sport facility are big parts of my decision. Depending on a weight room, i may go NYU over USC so its pretty important for me
So my question is
1) Does the Lyon center or watever, USC GYM, have Power Rack/Power Cage? (not the smith machine one but the one you can do real squats and bench from)
2) IF they dont have power rack, would it be possible for me to just buy power rack on my own and just donate it?
3)Also is the basketball court open at like 5:30 or 6 in the morning, cuz i wanna practice in an empty gym and try out for USC bball team,?
thx for reading this post and for answering it if u will

You certainly have a unique approach to making that difficult college decision.

hehe WEll, i dont think i can last 4 yrs without Squatting/Benching or not playing ball in the morning. but srsly, it will be really helpful if somebody help me out here and give me some feedback on Lyon center weight room and basketball Court…

Perhaps a gap year is in order to mull these important questions. That would give you an opportunity to find and visit schools which are known for Squatting/Benching - the two Universities you have listed may not be your best choices in those important areas.

Sorry to give you grief, ATG. You are probably gonna look better, feel better, and kill at bball more than all those kids re-checking out USC’s and NYU’s more scholarly aspects this April. Best of luck.

The outdoor basketball courts are open 24 hours on Watt Way, the indoor ones at the Lyon Center are open: Mon-Fri 6am-12midnight and Sat-Sun 11am-12midnight.

^Thx thats a really helpful information for me!
I will really apreciate if anyone wud help me with the weightroom situation!

Please buy a rack and donate it. Problem solved.

^ I will, just wondering if they have space for it

ATGSQUAT,

I totally see where you’re coming from as I’m just as big on fitness / weight lifting. For those who never go to the gym and don’t care about their physique / what they eat, will never understand.

I graduated from 'SC a few years ago and the Lyon Center is pretty bad (if you want to talk about layout, etc.), but it gets the job done. It has the necessary free weights / machines and the basketball courts are nice and offer good competition. In the end, a weight room is a weight room, so you’ll be just fine.

And yes, they do have a squat rack and a Smith machine as well (though I hate those).

April fool’s…?

thx akbaby for your information, its really nice to hear that they got a squat rack and free weights! (i hate smith machines too! theyre more dangerous and less effective…)
^ WELL tis aint a joke for April fool’s i may say… Fitness/Weight Lifting/Basketball are really important for me :>
