do you guys know if usc takes into account whether you've completed the prereqs for your major prior to the application period? i'm doing political science as my second choice but i haven't completed polisci1, which I plan on taking this spring.

i'm applying as a junior level and have all of the reqs (as well as the ge's) for my first major done, btw.

As long as you complete them prior to transfer. There's a supplemental portion you have to send in that tells you to list current courses and unit values and next semester's planned courses. (spring)

Well it really depends what major. I applied as a bio major and took zero classes towards my prereq. I only took 38 units worth of GE classes and random stuff. I still got accepted but as spring (probably because I was applying as a sophomore). I'm sure it varies by student.

Hey! Im a freshman at a CCC and im planning to apply this spring for Fall08. Does anyone know how competitive admission to Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Studies (B.S.) and Health and Humanity (B.A.) is? Thanks.

I came to this place when I was transferring to USC - and I needed housing then - so, now that I'm finished at USC, i'd like to offer the apartment im leaving:

$431 per month (plus $18 per month for all utilities, including internet) for a shared room and your own parking spot in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment in the City Park Apartment complex two blocks from USC.

This is north of campus - which is the area you want to be in if you're a student - it's much safer.

I have a desk and a bed that I'd be willing to leave for $100 if you don't have your own furniture.

I'm leaving the apartment because I will no longer be student at USC at the end of the semester.

When is the best time to start talking to the USC Regional Coordinator if one wants to transfer. Transfer applications are due February 1st, so is now about the right time to talk to them?

Also, how helpful are they--and what is the main things they help one out with? Comments from any people who already applied and were accepted (and talked to Regional Coordinators ahead of time) would be most appreciated.

It's my understanding that USC offers first preference to junior college transfers, and then to transfers from four-year colleges.

Does anyone know if California 4-year colleges get preference after the junior colleges--and, if so, is it this way because they are giving preference to California residents? And, then, do they also give any preference to California residents attending out-of-state 4-year schools--over non-California residents attending such school, I mean?

O.K., with the Thornton deadline coming up, I am now really panicking and freaking out about my chances. Here are my current stats:

Transferable GPA: 3.75 (could go up to a 3.84 if I ace out this fall, or as low as a 3.76)
Non-Transferable GPA: 3.67
Units: 24 transferable completed (will go up to 36 by the end of the fall)
GE: Will be completed at the end of the fall semester
Pre-Req: finished last spring (Macroeconomics and Microeconomics)
EC: Deans List every semester at school, currently produce music projects in my home studio where I am essentially a one man band.
Work: None
Legacy: None
Applying to: Thornton School Of Music - Music Industry (B.S.)
2nd major: None
Current school: Community College in Southern California

I am primarily worried about my chances at Thornton. You see, for most of my childhood, I was home schooled with numerous physical illnesses, which prevented me from doing a lot of music related stuff outside my house, hence the low EC's. Inside, I was able to teach myself a lot of instruments (I have perfect pitch) and began to gradually record. Thankfully, I've barely been able to get healthy for the past year and 1. get back to school where I have taken and completed courses such as Music Theory and Music Production and 2. I have been working on building a home studio with the ultimate goal to record and produce myself writing everything, recording everything and producing everything. However, compared to some of the jaw dropping applications that I've seen at Thornton with internships, touring around the world... am I just kidding myself here? I thought about attaching some recordings of what I've done, but they are not professional quality stuff, although they're not bad either (a lot of intricate harmonies, etc.). I just feel that my chances at Thornton are doomed. Any comments about this in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all!

does anyone know if USC looks at UC personal statements?
Since my UC personal statement sort of follows the USC's ps topic,
I am thinking about revising a little on UC ps and submit it to USC.
Do you think that will work?

Your grades are solid. In your statement of objectives just say what you know your capable of. I'm in the same boat, but with opposite problems. My gpa is average (and not for USC's average transfer rate). Don't feel doomed though. Apply for a second choice major and maybe you'll get in to that if you don't get into Thornton. I was a bit worried too. I know that they are selective. I also know two other people applying who both have great stats. But if I don't get in this year, I'll just work harder on my grades and apply next year. Good Luck!

Calcruzer, because USC is a private university, they do not give preference to California residents. I don't think they give preference to junior college transfers either.

I don't think I have asked this in the USC thread yet so what do you think are my chances?

Quick question, guys, before I completely lose my mind...

My Thornton application is due tomorrow (12-1), however, due to some really unexpected family emergencies that have happened the past couple of weeks, I have not been able to put the finishing touches on my application. So my question is: if I personally went to USC tomorrow and delivered it to Thornton, would that be O.K.?
