USC Fall 08 transfers

torrancecali- you have to fax or mail your parents 2007 tax forms and w2's and your own as well. if it doesn't apply then you have to fill out some other form and turn it in still. :P
i'm thinking of where to go to do this since i don't have a fax machine, i'll wait and see until tuesday if my CCC has one somewhere.

Here's the website that tells you what financial aid stuff you need to submit.

USC Financial Aid - Applying & Receiving Financial Aid - Undergraduate - New Students

Also, make sure you apply for a Cal Grant. Here's that website:

CalGrants.org

womantroy- what if.
If your parents . . .
are married and filed separately: Submit both tax returns.
are divorced or separated: Attach only your custodial parent's 2007 federal tax return or if your parents filed jointly for 2007 submit that return. If your custodial parent has remarried, submit tax returns for this parent and your stepparent.
are not legally required to file a federal income tax return for 2007: Fax a completed 2008–2009 Parent Non-Filing Statement Form.
do not live in the United States and do not file a U.S. tax return: Submit a 2008-2009 Parent Non-Filing Statement Form and attach translated documentation of their income, such as a foreign tax return, employer statement, etc. Convert all amounts to U.S. dollars.

my mom do not live in the US so my parent don't have to submit fax forms?

I want to apply USC School of Cinematic Arts. Deadline is in December, so here are my stats.

After this semester, I should have:

28 Units
GPA: 3.22

At the end of Spring '09, I will have:

60 Units
GPA: Approx. 3.40

I'm going to be taking classes until Spring just so I can also apply to some other schools. So USC will look at my GPA at the time of applying (in December) and once again after Spring? What's my chances? I mean, considering I do good on the creative writing sample and essays. Is 3.2-3.4 a decent shot?

Gee Torrancecali- THAT I don't know, lol. I would call to make sure. Sounds like a unique situation so yeah, call!

Torrancecali- you had it in your own post:
"If your parents... do not live in the United States and do not file a U.S. tax return: Submit a 2008-2009 Parent Non-Filing Statement Form and attach translated documentation of their income, such as a foreign tax return, employer statement, etc. Convert all amounts to U.S. dollars."

Here is the form: USC 08-09 Parent Non-Filling Statement.

einna- i really appreciated... but when is this form do by? it does not say on the web.

Yeah, I think just ASAP. I'm going to try and look for a fax machine somewhere at school tomorrow. I'm sure it's cheaper if not free than these other places I went to. & I'm mega broke right now haha :P

"& I'm mega broke right now haha :P"

let's ALL get used to saying those words.... esp for those of us that DO end up at USC for several years.... :0

lol. -_-
i'm sure i'll enjoy it. somehow. it's a different kind of broke to bond over.

What are my chances of getting into USC Marshall as a transfer student?
I'm applying from out of state community college.

Credit hours: 60
GPA: 3.85 (Maybe 3.9 after this semester)
Completed pre-req for Marshall
GE: Completed
Work Experience: worked 50 hrs/wk for a semester as a waitress.
Violinist for Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra
Volunteer Experience: 100 hrs at the library/Salvation Army

Micro econ:A
Macro econ: A
Bus Calc: A
Eng Comp: B
Financial Accounting: A
Managerial Accounting: C

I have one C in managerial accounting, which i don't think is a transferable course to USC because transfer students are required to take the course at USC. I also withdrew from my classes for a semester because I had to work over 50 hours/week, and I have 2 withdrawals other than that one semester I had to completely withdraw.I eventually ended up re-taking all the classes I withdrew from and reieved As.
What are my chances of getting accepted to USC?

Looks like the backlog is clearing up at USC. I got my postcard back (the one I sent in the big white envelope with my transcript cover sheet), and my OASIS status finally stopped saying "Missing College Transcript Cover Sheet" etc.

big sigh of relief!

(I mailed those on Jan 30th, by the way.)

you mailed it the 30th? Hmm, my college transcript problem should clear up on OASIS soon too then. I delivered transcripts myself the 1st. AND they gave me a receipt.

Let me know when yours clear up.
Also, theres two mailing addresses listed for the office of undergraduate admission. One is just Office of Undergraduate Admission, USC, LA, and the othe one has a 700 childsway address on it. Does it matter which one we send it to? I'm kind of confused.

j3nnyyx3: I am not adept at admissions counselling. But I have to accede with the fact that a C in Managerial Accounting might be adverse to your admissions decision. Remember, your Supplemental Application to Marshall will actually personate an important role in admissions decision to Marshall. Both the C and the B in English will appear on your Supplemental Application which in fact is the most momentous summary of your academic achievements.

Again, I am not sure. You must submit all the documents and just await decision. Peace!

j3nnyyxx3,

You are not required to take Managerial Accounting at USC. If you read the Marshall school bulletin, it tells you that if you took both Financial and Managerial Accounting (and passed both) prior to going to the school, then you will take a class called Analytical Aspects of Accounting instead of either of the two you already passed. So, yes, you do have to take one more accounting course--but you do not retake Managerial Accounting.

P.S. Your stats are really good, but USC gives preference first to in-state CCCs, then to other California college transfers, then to in-state students at out-of-state schools, and then lastly to those at out-of-state schools who are out-of-state students. So it's hard to say what your chances are. I'm guessing that you are still likely to get in since the GPA average of USC Marshall acceptees is a 3.7 GPA.

Wow, they must have had a ton of applications. My son's application, which he mailed on January 31st and which was received by USC on February 4th still has not been entered into the system. We know they received it and will process it since they cashed the check and we have the USPS receipt, but the system shows they don't have one single part of the application, test scores (which were sent weeks ago), high school or college transcripts, or even that they processed the payment.

P.S. Strangely enough he has proof that he mailed it Express Mail (one day mail), so that it was guaranteed to get there by February 1st (and was coming from the East Coast to the West Coast so they had an extra three hours), but it still arrived late (on Monday after the weekend);--thanks US Postal Service. According to USC's website, it only had to be mailed by the deadline, though.

Calcruzer.. i don't think this is true.. USC is a private university and gives equal consideration to all students.

I have to agree with pakiboy on this one. I read this a long time ago and finally found the source: USC Undergraduate Admission: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am not a California resident. Will it be harder for me to gain admission? Will my tuition and fees be higher than those for California residents?

A: USC is a private university and thus has no state residency requirements. We recruit nationally and internationally and almost half of our student body comes from outside of California. Tuition and fees are the same for all students, regardless of state of residence or national citizenship.

Calcruzer,
Thank you for reading over my stats and giving me input.
Don't worry about your son's documents. I had the same problem and I called USC admissions today. They said they are processing the documents they have recieved on Feb 1st now so they said it should clear up within a week or so.
