General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I didn’t get a Pres/Trustee invite, but am excited nonetheless. Although USC has a very high % of students in the top-10% of their class (~88%?) I think my EC’s/essays, rigorous courseload, and SAT score made up for it. With that said, I’m not very likely going to go to USC, but after my 6 reach schools it’s my top choice.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?:
I have to say I was a little disappointed not getting a scholarship interview. I can see why I didn’t though; I’m looking at the people invited for Trustee interviews, and their ECs and accomplishments blow mine out of the water. My NMF status will get me 1/2 tuition.

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: 12/1? I forget… too lazy to check. Decided to apply 2 days before scholarship deadline.

Crossing fingers for Duke!!! <3

Location/Person:[ul][] State or Country: CA
[] School Type: extremely competitive
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: F[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: First generation… good ECs?

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: X
I’m so shocked that I got in despite my awful GPA. It honestly doesn’t compare, but that was only due to a C- that I received my freshman year. I’ve been on a really big upwards trend since then. I’m so excited! Presidential Scholar  USC is one of my top choices

Decision: Accepted

Date applied: Thanksgiving-ish
Date decision postmarked/received: 25 Jan / 28 Jan
Accepted at which school/major at USC: Dornsife, English (applied 1st choice to Cinematic Arts for Film Production, pending a decision there)

Stats:
SAT Total: Not submitted
ACT: 33
SAT Subject Tests: Not submitted
GPA-UW/W: 3.90/4.6
Rank: No rank offered, but top 10%
AP/IB classes: 8 (5s on all APs taken thus far)

Subjective:
Essays: Common App essays were stellar (focused on how Mark Twain’s The Mysterious Stranger impacted my religious views). Why USC essay was solid. Cinematic Arts-specific essays were some of the best work I’ve ever done, IMO.
Teacher Recs: I’m told excellent.
Counselor Rec: Again, told excellent.
EC highlights: Founding member of my school’s film club; served as a director, editor, cinematographer, actor, and screenwriter on a number of short films; cast as Romeo in a professional outside-of-school production of Romeo & Juliet; leading role in school musical all 4 years; award-winning competitive performances in district and state-level Thespian competitions; President of our Thespian Club; President of our National English Honor Society; won 1st Place at a number of Model United Nations conferences, including Harvard MUN and RCIMUN (conference in Istanbul, Turkey); emceed our school’s annual Talent Show; lead lawyer in Mock Trial competition; two years of student government

Location/Person:
State or Country: Southwest Florida
School Type: Private, rigorous, 37 students in senior class
Ethnicity: White
Gender: M

Other Factors, hook?: The admissions rep told me Florida applicants tend to have a decent advantage, so I guess that. The MUN/Thespian blend is generally a nice thing to have going for you. For Cinematic Arts-specifics, my essays emphasized my interest in the horror genre and how fear can be utilized to craft superb cinema… I imagine that’s a little different than the typical film applicant?

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I’m guessing I got the Dean scholarship since there was no offer to interview (which I didn’t really expect anyway). My letter stated that I’d been accepted as an English major (I alluded in my Why USC essay that I’d still be potentially interested in USC if not admitted into cinematic arts), but my admission into the School of Cinematic Arts as a production major was still pending. We’re kind of torn on how to handle things as far as visits go… do we spend the money (keep in mind we’re in Florida) to fly out there to visit, only to learn that I haven’t been accepted into film? Given my extremely generous scholarship offers into some schools on the East coast I will probably not take out any loans necessary to attend USC if I don’t get accepted into film. Nevertheless I’m very honored and am happy to be admitted, and there’s a very good chance I’ll become a Trojan if I do manage to get into the film program!
