Hello, has anyone here chosen USC over UCLA or vice-versa for film? Can anyone please tell me your opinions on the positives and negatives of both schools? Opinions appreciated. Thank you. :)

USC Film all the way.

definitely USC.

Can you please explain why? Thanks.

It's better. period.

You should check out Film School Confidential by Karin Kelly and Tom Edgar, which has two summaries on both schools. From what I can remember:

UCLA - Independent, cheaper for in state
USC - Industry
Same - Equal rating on equipment and availability, out of state for UCLA is just a little more than USC tuition (otherwise are the same)

Definitely, try to check out the book... it got opinions from students who attend there with pros and cons. I think people here would be a little biased.

Also, I think in UCLA film is an option when you're a junior and up, but you can have film as a freshman in USC. (If you're an undergrad.)

haha j/k. but it is the truth though...

I personally think USC might get more $$ since it's private...etc... but I don't have any ..urr.. professional/factual knowledge on this subject.

I just heard a lot more about USC film than UCLA's.

You hear more about USC film school because they do PR more for their students since it is industry directed.

I have checked out Film School Confidential. :) It's a great book. I'm just looking for even more opinions.

USC is incredibly expensive. I wouldn't be able to afford it unless I take out a lot of loans. I'm in-state so UCLA would be much more affordable for me. I'm just thinking that most people automatically say "USC is the best" because it's private and they do seem to do a lot of PR. From what I've heard, UCLA is more competitive (they take in fewer students a year).

Yeah, the enrollment numbers differed a bit drastically. I'm worried about being in debt, too, in the future- especially with the cost of everything.
