USC Financial Aid

So apparently you can see you financial aid online before the mail it? will there be a new box on the financial aid tab on USConnect once it's available?

there will be another box under the financial aid tab titled “awards”

If you have not received an email, please do not assume your package is complete. Thank you.

Hey alamemom!

I haven’t received an email yet so I am still hopeful, but when I check my financial aid online it isn’t showing the trustee scholarship. Is this because it just hasn’t been credited to my account yet, or do merit scholarships not appear under financial aid?

Thank you! :)

Were you awarded a Trustee scholarship? If so, then yes, it will appear on your financial aid award page - after the email is sent :)

Yes, I was awarded the Trustee. It sounds like they are still adjusting my package then, thank you!

It’s hard when I want to confirm my enrollment so badly but I can’t until I can show my family the financial information!

My son’s aid is available on us-connect.

Congratulations sinarlord! (It occured to me as I was writing that I would look silly if I promised a Trustee to someone who hadn’t been awarded one…) It has been my experience that Trustee and Presidential awardees often find another small scholarship added if they DON’T do a quick commitment deposit - it might be worth a couple thousand to wait a bit ;)

alamemom,

Are you saying that even though my son’s aid is up on usconnect it may not be completed? I wonder because there is no option for work study or is there another reason he would not be eligible for work study?

It is great that some have their packages, but again - for those who haven’t received an email saying the finacial aid is ready, it might be an incomplete package (this is why they try to do it in the middle of the night).

That is correct, if you haven’t received an email yet, it may be an incomplete package.

do any of you guys remember when you submitted all of your financial aid information?

I think we will take your advice and hold out a little to see what happens, they have been very generous with us but I would love a little more too.

We submitted ours in mid Dec, as my son was in the Questbridge program and applied through RD when he wasn’t matched

^ Did he get a mysterious “University Scholarship” for $2,500?

No the financial aid package at this point only includes the trustee scholarship, a pell grant, unsubbed and subbed loans. Don’t see any other grants or scholarships

Hmmm… I would hold out hope for a $2,500 University scholarship to replace the work/study. Hold off on commiting to USC for a bit (you have unitil May 1) and make them scramble to recruit your son by offering a bit more. I’ve seen it happen with Trustee and Presidential scholars.

Up to this point we haven’t contacted anyone in admissions or fin. aid, I know how busy they are. I guess once we receive the mailed copy of the financial aid offer I will call to get additional info. if it isn’t in the mailed copy

No, I mean it might not be there even with the complete package. Then, as the commitment deadline draws near, they start sending out these extra “University Scholarships” of $1,000 to $2,500 to Trustee and Presidential scholars who have not accepted or declined the offer of admission to try to convince them to attend. There is no risk in waiting to commit, and it might pay off :)

I understand what you were saying. We will be holding out.
