Still waiting for my financial aid package to come! I’m dying over here. Im currently looking into the prepharmacy programs at USC and UoP. If i attend UoP, i’d still have to pay around 25K year. However, if USC is anywhere around that range (and hopefully less!) I will probably attend USC. What is the most financial aid USC gives to students who did not get a full or half scholarship?

it totally depends on your EFC… it can be up to close to full tuition (with some fed loans)

pharmapplicant: I know from personal experience that without merit aid (did not get the app in by the specified date) and basing it merely off their determined EFC, I was given nearly 40k in university grants, excluding my federal aid. So, basically, it all depends on how they calculate your estimated family contribution.

Just to clarify a tiny bit, USC calculates your need using the CSS/Profile, not the FAFSA, so the FAFSA EFC doesn’t have any impact on the amount you are expected to contribute at USC, and it depends on your income and assets rather than how they do the calculation - the calculation is done the same for all students.

The amount USC awards to *other students *will not have an impact on your package. The information in your CSS/Profile will.

If you have not received a financial aid package by Monday, request an extension on the commitment deadline from both USC and UoP. USC will grant the extension (be sure to get it in writing), but UoP may or may not. If they do not, you may have to make a deposit there while you wait for your financial aid package from USC to be sure you have an affordable option for Fall.

Good luck.

Several questions -
- To request a commitment extension, should we write to the Admissions Office or Financial Aid office, if the reason is about financial aid?

2) Since I only recently decided that USC is may really be the best choice for me, and I need to see what sort of financial package they can offer me, and I am submitting FAFSA and CSS today, which I understand is extremely late, will my aid package be greatly diminished?

3) After USC determines how much aid they will offer, is there any way to negotiate with them due to special circumstances with family arrangements, this late in the year?

4) Is it possible to get aid by only turning in the CSS, and not the FAFSA?

Thanks so much for the help!

Also, though this is off topic, wasn’t the deadline actually May 2nd? Or am I completely mistaken and must now make my decision today…

Since it’s so late, I would call them asap and ask. The enrollment commitment deadline is May 1st. Housing deposit is the 2nd.

Unfortunately, I’m thinking your package will be diminished since nearly everyone has already received their packages. USC makes it pretty clear that the later you apply, the less money there is available. Maybe ask the Financial Aid office when you call.

Once you turn in your info, you might have to wait for a few weeks before USC receives everything and process it. Do you have any other school offers in consideration. If you’re thinking there’s a chance that you might appeal, won’t you have to ask for extensions from the other schools?

I was required to fill out both, so I assume you would need to as well.

Isn’t the commitment dateline on May 2nd? I’m planning on calling USC tomorrow for an extension. Trying not to panic…

May 2nd, 2011

[FAQs - USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/faq/admission_admitted.html)

Alamemom,

I am an admitted transfer student and I just received an email stating my financial aid award was sent this morning.

There is nothing listed on my USC Connect profile, for newly admitted students is the award package information only sent by mail?

Yes, your financial aid package should appear online.

For USConnect, click “Financial Aid,” and the “Financial Aid Awards.” If a new page does not pop up, be sure your browser allows pop-ups. Then choose “2011-2012” to view your award.

If nothing is there, do your submitted financial aid documents show up under Document Status? If not, some freshman applicants had a issue where they had not included their social security number on their application for admission and so the USConnect admission site was not linked to the financial aid information. This may have happened with yours. Don’t worry, it does not affect your aid in any way, it just affects your ability to access it online. Try sending a FAX or email that includes your USC ID and full name as well as your social security number. Tell them you are unable to access finacial aid information online and ask if it is because of the social secutiry number issue and ask them to link it up.

If your documents DO show up, the social security number is probably not the issue. Try waiting until later in the day and if it still doesn’t show up email and/or FAX to let them know it doesn’t show up. You should get the paper copy within a few days in any case, but any adjustments will not be sent as paper copies, so you will want to establish online access.

Good luck!

*You can also try accessing financial aid info through your Oasis page: https://camel2.usc.edu/OASIS/Login.aspx

Alamemom,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lengthy response.

I just checked and my package is online. It unfortunately will not be sufficient so it looks like I will attending school elsewhere this fall.

Best of luck to all.

Hello all, my name is Mario. I am currently an undergraduate student who is about to graduate this fall. I am highly interested in attending USC this coming spring and have a few questions that I would like to ask to help understand a few things that will help my decision making.

The first thing I would like to know is what is the current process students need to do go through in order to be able to have summer housing at USC? How does the financial aid process work for summer housing and how difficult of a process is it to get summer financial aid? Do you have to move from your spring/fall living quarters to a summer one?

The reason I ask is because I live in New York, and although USC is my dream school, it would be a HUGE hassle to have to move back and forth from New York to California each summer. Moving the first time is hard enough.

I would also ask if anyone could kindly list a few tips on how to go through the financial aid process at USC so that I have a general sense of how the process works and what I need to do to cover my bases in advance.

Thanks.

Hello all,

I recently was accepted to USC this past friday as a transfer from a cc, but i had a couple of questions about financial aid. Is it too late to turn in Parents’ Amended Tax Return 1040x and the Parents’ W-2 Form? Should I fill out the Appeal Concerning Late Financial Aid Application form? This has been bothering me this whole weekend, and I’m just so anxious to go to USC! But of course, if I dont receive a good amount of financial aid, i might have to go to one of my back-up school instead Someone please help! and thanks in advance! ;)

At the USconnect log in page there is a documents section for FA. Get a bar coded document cover sheet and fax the forms to them. They reviewed my 1040x within a few days after I faxed it to them. I highly recommend using a fax.

Anybody,
I received an SGR and have submitted my grades which consisted of 2 prereqs for Marshall (Calc and writing) I got all As so I am hoping for the best. I have not heard if I received financial aid and I do not know if it is too late. Would they wait until I was officially accepted to let me know? I am independent student and made appx 47K and have appx 10K in savings; will that disqualify me from financial aid? If I am accepted to USC I will not be able to work full time and I am worried that if I am accepted I may not be able to pay for it if I do not receive financial aid (which is counterproductive because I have worked and gone to school full-time just to get into USC and have money saved up to pay for it). I called a couple months ago to ask similar questions and basically was told to keep and eye on USConnect. Does anybody have information that might help me or any ideas? Thank you so much!

Are you transferring as a sophomore or as a junior CACCXFER?

I will be transferring as a Sophomore (a semester shy of Junior). I got accepted yesterday, however I still need to do everything I can so I can pay for it!

I just got my finaid letter from USC this week and all I’ve received is a Pell Grant and Cal Grant A, along with about $5,000 in federal loans. Even with all of these, my/my mother’s EFC is roughly $3,000 monthly on the payment plan, which is uncomfortably tight when considered in conjunction with our mortgage. Is there any way for me to convince USC to eke out a bit more?

EDIT: In addition, I’m thinking of commuting (1 hour train ride) to USC instead of living there, because the USC-managed housing is ridiculously expensive and the other local housing options look a bit… sketchy.
