Hello, I am confused about USC's foreign language requirement. I gathered from their website that some majors have a foreign language requirement, which is 3 semesters, correct? What I am confused about is that if you are a CCC student, do these need to be completed before you transfer over or can they be done once you get to USC? I am a Communications major, by the way. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure that they will allow you to complete the third semester at USC (they want your tuition money, hehe). BUT, I have read on their materials that since most majors require a third semester, that in order to be a strong candidate you should show progress in that requirement. Especially as a Communications major, it would probably be a good idea to do this. More so if you plan on entering as a Junior.

Hope that helped.

You’ll actually have to take a test to show that you actually know the language. If you bomb it, you’re going to have to start from level 1—they dont’ care how many levels you’ve down, if you’ve got the skills then, you will only be able to test out of it. I know it totally sucks! They should just give you credit by the mere fact that you did take and pass a class, but I don’t believe that’s the case

I don’t think Marshall students have a foreign language requirement.

According to the USC catalog, the following programs do not require foreign language:

-Architecture
-Business/Accounting
-Dentistry
-All engineering (except for Computer Science)
-Any B.F.A. (Fine Arts)
-Music Industry
-Public Policy

Hope this helps.
