So are the first days of being a USC student treating all of you guys?? Hopefully I can join you there next year!

The first days are a little like summer camp :). You don't know anyone on your floor, you're meeting billions of new people whose names you won't remember two seconds after the introductions, and you're confused as hell about where everything is on campus. But it's still pretty fun! I got an awesome roommate, thank GOD, but I've already heard about a mismatched roommate situation. I hope you can join us next year too! Classes are starting today so I'm really excited.

If you're wondering why I'm posting at 5 AM...yea, I can't sleep and keep waking up. Damn you twin extra long beds!

Oh, and the boys are damn hot. But if you're a guy, the girls are pretty damn hot too.

Daughter is having a great time and has participated in many activities including Friends and Neighbors Day and the scavenger hunt. She also describes the "summer camp" feeling and mentioned that so far she's not seeing any of the same people as she goes from activity to activity, because there are so many people. She'll be glad to know that someone else can't remember all the names, etc. :)

I think this week that "millions of stranges" aspect will start to settle down as she attends classes, gets a job, gets to know her learning community, gets involved with an activity or two, etc., so faces will start to "repeat" and become friends. Her R.A. has also done a good job setting up group meals at EVK, etc.

Her roommate is nice and should be fine to live with, but comes with a ready-made social group of several people from her H.S. who are all sticking together in a tight group. (Daughter also ran into this at orientation, when roommate skipped out to spend the night with H.S. friends. Could give a girl a complex, grin!) I want to encourage those of you who attend college along with fellow H.S. classmates to take the plunge beyond the "familiar" and make plenty of time to get to know the other "new" people on your floor and elsewhere at USC, including spending time getting to know your roommates, especially during Welcome Week -- there will be tons of time to hang with old friends later! :)

My son has about two dozen classmates from his HS at USC but appears to be mingling with his new roomie & lots of others. There are lots of friendly, nice folks on is floor & I don't think he's hanging out in any clique, since he tends to be more independent. Being able to see familiar faces from time to time is nice for him anyway. Have not heard back at all about how he liked his 1st day of classes today.

Yes, that must be especially nice seeing faces from home when he's traveled so far to be at SC!

Daughter enthused about her first two classes, yay! :)

Just received the standard letter to all regarding her first day of classes! All went well and she's off to the New Student Convocation/BBQ.

That's probably why S isn't IMing his sister right now--food always takes precedence. <grin></grin>
