usc gpa question

So In 8th grade I took 3 high school classes but did terribly in them… when I received my transcript last year I saw how much those 3 classes dropped my gpa and I calculated what it would be without those just including freshman year and on and it would be WAY higher… I am talking about UW gpa because usc takes UW… but do any of you know if the gpa you submit for usc is straight off your transcript so it will include my 8th grade grades making me not competitive to other applicants, or if it is recalculated to only 9th and on which would make me have the exact average gpa for usc admission. (when answering this question don’t take in consideration other aspects of the application (i’ve got that covered:)) … I just want the gpa question answered) Thanks!!

Hi there! From my knowledge, USC is somewhat lenient as to what your grades are prior to tenth grade. They understand that the reality of high school doesn’t “kick” in until sophomore year, and freshmen, or eight-graders in your case, aren’t exactly too concerned about college yet. Instead, they try to focus more on your sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school. With that said, I wouldn’t worry about it. If they aren’t strict on freshman grades, I doubt they’ll concern themselves with grades from middle school.
Here’s what their website says about it: http://ask.usc.edu/app/answers/detail/a_id/173/~/how-does-usc-evaluate-my-high-school-gpa%3F
Hope this helps!
