How hard is it to get into the guaranteed 8 year medical program at USC? What kind of requirements would you need for SAT and GPA? Also, it's a private school and pretty expensive...does USC offer a lot of scholarships for academic achievement for those that qualify? And if so, how much? Thanks!

You must be referring to USC’s Bacc/MD program. Perhaps you should search for previous threads on this forum that discuss the program, as they may include the stats and information that you are looking for.

USC does offer a large number of academics-based merit scholarships, most notably the Presidential Scholarship (half-tuition) and Trustee Scholarship (full-tuition). Off the top of my head, I think the percentage of undergraduate students with these scholarships is between 10% and 25%. Apply before the December deadline in order to be considered for these scholarships.

Furthermore, USC automatically awards Presidential Scholarships to National Merit Finalists who get accepted into USC and choose to attend. To my knowledge, USC is the only highly-ranked university in the country to offer such a generous incentive to National Merit Finalists. It is my opinion that this strategy is one of the main reasons that USC has been able to attract top students and greatly increase its academic prestige over the past decade or two. But keep in mind that being a National Merit Finalist does not guarantee acceptance into USC. Some National Merit Finalists will be rejected, and this will probably be even more true as USC’s admittance rate drops to around 20% or below as a result of its move to the Common App.

If you are good enough to get into BA/MD program, USC covers probably at least half tuition. The kids who make it usually are good enough to get into a top 10 school.

At orientation, parents at the pre-med meeting were told that USC will no longer offer the Bacc/MD program after this year (class of 2015).

LaPrincesa, I am in the Bacc MD program at USC and can answer any questions. You should first check the Multi Degree forum for past threads. Sportsmomma are you sure class of 2015 is the last one? I’ve been hearing rumors.

Dr. William McClure told the parents (including me) at the “What every parent of a pre-health student needs to know” seminar at new student orientation that this was the last class for the Bacc/Md program. Judy Haw, Director of Supplemental Instruction, who was also involved in the seminar also confirmed this. A few parents asked questions about this as well for clarification.

I called the number on this site for my own confirmation and I was told that the sportsmomma’s information is correct.
