USC has 2741 Freshman but total UG population is over 16000???

Something does not compute. 2741 X 4 yrs= 10964 undergraduates. Does anyone know why there are actually 5000 more undergraduates at USC than would be expected based on the Freshman matriculants?

Transfers from CC's, Common in Cali.

'SC has approximately 17,000 undergrads. In 2004 calendar year the school 'graduated' 4,344 students, which contrasts sharply with the 2741 Frosh matriculants.

Similar to many publics, it has a low 4-yr graduation rate (61%); five year = 79%; six year = 82%. USC also accepts more transfers than many private colleges, but not sure on those numbers.

They took 2245 transfer students the same year. Assuming that most transfer in as juniors and stay around for two years, that would just about account for the missing 5000.

Three reasons: (a) that figure is fall enrollment; USC offers a number of those who apply for fall the ability to enroll in spring, and those are not counted in that 2700 figure; (b) USC takes in about 1300 transfer students per year (that 2245 no. above is those admitted, 1300 is about the number that actually enroll), majority into junior year, many from California community colleges; (c) the senior class is always much larger than any freshman class because it includes 4th year students, and 5th and 6th year who have not yet finished (for a variety of reasons including those who do co-ops)

Whoa! So does that mean that a student should expect large class sizes all 4-5 years they attend? Do the class sizes get larger in the upper UG levels? Or are there a lot more Upper level UG classes to handle the transfers? Any inout from both knowledgable parents or USC current upper level students would be appreciated!

classes usually get smaller as you move to uppder division... i don't attend usc but that is what i heard and that is generally the case for the UC system.

USC is not part of the UC system.

um.. yeah i realize that. I just said that it will probably follow the same trend. I have a lot of friends at USC and they have a mixture of large and small classes since they are still doing GE's. Usually, a class will have a smaller discussion led by a graduate student TA. Those classes usually have around 30 people but lectures are usually very large.
