So, I've decided to go to USC...I'm just not sure which one. If I go to USC (SC), I'll be in the Honors College and the International Business major, both of which are ranked #1 in their respective categories. Tuition would also be $15-20,000 cheaper per year, as I am an in-state student. My parents say they could make the cost work, but I'm not sure if I should just go to a cheaper school right now and save money for after college (if I go to grad school). At USC (CA), I'm a Business Administration major, and I'm hoping to get into their Business Cinematic Arts program. Anything Cinematic Arts-related at USC(CA) would be amazing, I'm sure, and I've heard the alumni connections/networking opportunities are great, but I'm not sure if that would compensate for the extra cost. Making the move to CA sounds exciting, and I really like how diverse the student body seems to be, but I'm not sure if SC would be a better fit for me right now. Any suggestions? XD Thanks!

Spending an additional 60-80K for the chance at getting into the Cinematic Arts program seems a bit silly, doesn’t it? Do you know what the odds are? I don’t, but I’d want to find out for that kind of money. Choosing a college based on major is of dubious merit anyway. You’re likely to change your mind. But check out the likelihood of getting into that program and then get back to us.

Most of my daughter’s friends who graduated from USC Cinematic Arts making about $30K-$40k a year after a few years from graduation. And that for those that have jobs, there are some that don’t have jobs yet, working at Verizon. The alumni connections are great but reality is still reality.
Not sure what to advise you. Also the cost living in CA/LA area is much higher than South Carolina.

Jkeil911 well, I’m already in their Business Administration program, and I should find out soon about the Cinematic Arts thing. As for changing my major, that’s why I’m not sure if USC (SC) would be as good of a choice -USC in CA seems to be more well-rounded.

You don’t have to do everything at once. Chances are you’ll live beyond 22 and have a chance to do some of the other things you want to do after you graduate with a bachelors. Moving to cali is such an expensive and drastic move. Have you ever lived on your own? in a city? handled a checking account? handled classes, studying, sleeping, socializing, and room mating all at once? If you were a well-traveled person, at least 19, your parents’ only child, and they were well off, cali would make more sense. Just going off to college and doing the -ings well is work enough for most 18yos. It will be exciting AND challenging to get the balance right. You might be just the person for the challenge. I don’t know. Ask the people who know you best.
