USC Interview

omg my interview was really short… I’d say it was probably 25 minutes long, at most. I really hope this isn’t some sort of bad sign because i thought it went okay otherwise. I had the same interviewer and I actually found her to be really kind and helpful. I wasn’t nervous at all BUT NOW I AM because of how short the session was!!

If you look on the USC website, Lauren Hohman’s major was IR so maybe thats why you found her to be intense? I would guess she knows her stuff pretty well so she might have been holding you to a bit of a higher standard even if it wasn’t intentional! I found all of the USC staff I met to be really friendly and she was smiling during my whole interview so idk what she could have done to make you feel like you were being interrogated. Maybe youre just over-analyzing how it went, I’m sure you did a lot better than you think!

I had my interview two weeks ago. He first asked me what I majored in (biology), and then what my alternative would be, why USC, and then we went off on a tangent about my history and my parents. Because they came from another country, he based off his questions off that. Being ignorant about the history of my origins (shame shame), I couldn’t answer his questions too well. However he seemed pleased when I mentioned I was planning to double minor in chem and art when we went back on topic about school.
Some other questions were basic information (GPA, rank, SAT/ACT score, extracurriculars).
I couldn’t tell how long it lasted. All I know that it went pretty… stale. Or so I think. I felt I could do better.
Well, c’est la vie! Good luck to all future interviewees! I hope this helps.

@MA2011: I could tell she was an IR Major! Anyways she was a good interviewer and I have nothing against her I am jut worried my answers were not good enough because they were somewhat simple and not elaborate enough I think because it was such a unique major is why the mood seemed so intense…

I had a general interview at USC a couple weeks ago. Just relax, and be yourself. The staff and adcoms are GREAT. They all have very interesting stories. I enjoyed my interview, even though I only had it scheduled two hours before… (a slot opened up).
