Hello I am a prospective student and USC is currently my #1 choice.
I was wondering what the selection/competitiveness is like for students trying to obtain part time jobs on campus?
I would like to be able to work when I don’t have classes to make some extra cash (it would not go towards tuition).
From my daughters experience it’ seems easy if you are offered work study as part of your financial aid but not easy to find something on campus if you don’t have work study.
I don’t know what you’re major is, but I was talking to a recent graduate, and she says if you’re interested in research, its very easy to find a professor willing to mentor you, and often these research positions are paid.
Also the student newspaper has a classified section that advertises on campus, as well as off, jobs. My D recently landed a sweet on campus part time job by answering one of those ads.
I haven’t met anyone who received work/study in their FA package that wasn’t able to find a job, and I’ve even met a few kids without work/study that were able to find a job either school affiliated or at nearby restaurants/yogurt shops. Research positions are usually paid and participating in psych studies advertised online is another way to earn quick money. You can also tutor, become an SI instructor (once you’re at least a sophomore and only if you received an A in one of the general stem courses that SI sessions are offered for such as Chem 105 and the general biology sequence among others), or you can take notes for Disability Services. Read all of your emails that are sent to your student account because usually surveys come with an amazon giftcard/prepaid visa incentive to complete them. Overall, lots of ways to earn money even if you aren’t able to find a conventional part time job
