USC lost my application for admission

So yeah, im pretty pi*sed off with them.

Im an international student from England living in Cali. Half of the **** i need is in England, financial docs, grade forms, and some of my recommendations i cannot get again because those teachers are away.

And they want me to resubmit my app. I cant believe this. they LOST it!

this sucks :(

nearly every university that you apply to will send you some sort of a correspondence (email or snail-mail) to acknowledge your application. did you receive one of them from USC? I found USC to be extremely helpful in this case ..since I got my "receipt" 2 days after I submitted my app..and the "verify your information" letter only a week after. so between now and the time you submitted your application, have you received any correspondence from USC in any shape or form?

if you want to get into USC, your only way might be to submit all of your stuff again. and explain them your situation that it might take a few more days to send your stuff. but i say you should be fine as long as you submit by this friday.

have you explored all avenues of locating your application?

Yes. I have a form stamped by them because i dropped it in by hand.

I dont mind trying to resubmit my stuff. They have LOST my application. This is my fathers personal banking accout inof, my account info, details of where i live etc etc.

This isn't good enough in my eyes. And the guy i spoke to on the phone was most unhelpful - huffing and puffing etc.

In fact, i don't know what the law is here, but by loosing it are they not breaking data protection act laws?

You need to call back and ask for the dean of admissions. Don't just talk to the people who answer the phones. You need to go higher up.

I cannot find a number for that, and are they going to helpful, im some random applicant.

I dont know what to do, im so upset right now :(

If they really did lose it, then they should "bump you up" on the phone to someone with more control. Be polite about it, but stress how important the problem is, and how you need to talk with at least an associate dean.

And this should remind everyone to photocopy everything you send in, anywhere - just in case :)

did you apply online?

if u did, can u log into your account right now, and see what it says?

mines says "Application has been submitted _//06. No further changes possible"

No i did not submit it online. I walked it in by hand!! So how they lost it is beyond me.

And i am from England, most of my financial stuff and reccomendations were sent to the school in sealed envelopes.

That was out of my control. My situation is slightly different than a normal applicant applying from California.

haha this is horrible :(

so do they at least have the stuff that was mailed to them?

Who knows, they cannot find anything. They want me to resubmit what i can.

My chances are pretty much blown now.

sorry- this is unbelievable...
it won't help you for me to say this, but for everyone reading this...we were advised to call every school you applied to a few weeks after submitting your app, and asking them if your file is complete, do they need anything else, etc. and write down the name of the person you talk to, just to avoid this very situation occurring at the last minute.
It's a hard lesson to learn in life ,that just because you send or even hand-deliver everything...you still need to close the loop and confirm that it was received and they have it.
If I were you I would request a personal apt. with the Dean of Admissions when you hand-carry in your application the second time. Don't wait until you have everything from England, just gather up what you can now, and get some face time in...be VERY diplomatic but assertive. They should give you an extension of some sort to get the remaining items from England.
Good luck to you.

You indicate that you live in California, right? Call Admissions and get your tush in the Admissions office with your parent/s, guardian, whoever. It is easy to blow off someone on the phone, not so easy in person. Bring all the information/evidence that you have...or can reconstruct, as much as you can, your essays...whatever. Do it NOW....

Yeah, i am collating my copies of everything. I'm faxing it AND dropping it by hand.

On the phone they seem like the don't give a ***** and that it is my problem to sort. This is very unlike USC. Im disappointed with them.

Please bring a parent with you. It is amazing how an adult gives extra credibility and urgency to the matter. Try to get an appointment with your area's admissions officer. Plan to wait. There is nothing like a warm set of bodies sitting and waiting for an appointment. One of my friends went with their son to a school interview to solve a problem. She waited outside while her son tried to get help...and when it wasn't going well she walked in. Amazing how things got solved quickly. (She was not confrontational by the way, firm yes, but respectful).

Good luck!!!!!

I cannot take a parent because my parents are in England. :(

This is the covering letter i am putting with the second application. What do you think? Should i come across more assertive, angry, disappointed?

To Whom It May Concern:

I was recently informed that there has been a problem with my application to USC and it has been ‘lost in the system’. This package contains the application materials I have been asked to resubmit. However, because of the nature of my situation as an International student from England, I have been unable to provide some of the necessary materials that the application would normally require, please consider that this is no fault of my own. For your information the package is missing the following: Colour photocopies of my examination grade forms, sealed recommendations and college transcripts from my current school here in Los Angeles.

However, I do hope that the materials I have provided in this second package are sufficient for review.

Yours sincerely,''

I would mention that you have the form stamped by them (proof that you really did turn it in) and include a copy of that form.

I was wondering if anyone else was with you when you dropped off your application the first time? If you have any witnesses I would include their name and phone number. Let us know how things work out. Good luck!
