USC Mid-year response

If USC sends you a request asking for your mid-year grades for semester year, is that necessarily a good thing or bad thing? On one hand, it could mean that they need more evidence to see if they will accept you or it means they flat out rejected you...so which is the more likely reason?

I wasn't asked to send in my mid-year grades but I did so anyway.

You are supposed to send in mid-year reports…

it got me in. seriously. my junior year grades werent so hot, and my DRASTICALLY better grades was kind of a redemption for me. just for reference i got the “send midyear report” status, followed by the “midyear grades received” update and the “admissions committee is reviewing” update. i was accepted in the 1st wave to marshall

Just wondering. When was the first wave? I was accepted 3/11/2009 (most likely or it could be a few days earlier) to Viterbi Engineering for Biomedical Engineering. Was I 1st wave?

The first wave was at the end of January/beginning of February, for scholarship finalists.

Oh, I see.

oh yeah, my bad. i meant first non-scholarship wave :)

i have automatic presidential award though, thanks to NMF :)

I just really have to point this out, and it has nothing to do with Mid-Year Reports. I always get confused between Angryasianman and Anotherasian1234…they both have Asian in them. __

I never faxed in a copy of my grades or had my school send in an official midyear transcript so I hope that doesn’t screw me up… but on my Oasis thing I have two midyear report things so… who knows?

I’m pretty sure I sent my mid-year report through that application link, but it still says “send mid-year report.” I never got mail from USC asking for it. Is it normal to have that link?

My counselor, an ex-member of USC’s adcom said that if they specifically ask for a mid-year report, you’re at a borderline of being accepted.

S was not specifically asked to send in mid-year grades, except at the bottom of the generic “no scholarship” letter. He plugged them in on the website and mailed copies of his report card & CC transcript (taken at the HS, but grades aren’t on the report card) anyway since they were decent. Nothing official, just photocopies. He was accepted the next week. Don’t know if it made a difference or not, though.

iamcapncrunchh: S’s page still has a link “click here to report mid-year grades” if you click it, you see them. Follow that link and make sure they’re there.

USC does not require mid-years unless they specifically request them. The letter about the Scholarships only asked for the senior grades from your first marking period, which depends on our schedule. If you go by semester, then it asked for your mid-years… If you go by quarters, then it didn’t… Either way, if you were supposed to send them in, you’d have gotten another letter in addition to the scholarship one.

I never received a letter or email specifically asking for my Mid-Year report. Does this mean I’m not a borderline applicant? I also had straight As with four (max) AP classes (4.67 gpa), will this pull me in if my stats were around the USC average prior to senior year?

@youknowittttt seriously? oh my God you just made my heart jump, THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME HOPE! (I consider myself a sure reject…)

Yeah she said that they’re considering admitting you. But your senior grades would be very crucial at this point.
