They told us today at the welcome session.

what do they monitor it for?

Whoa... Bring out the sirens. You make it sound like we should all be very afraid. :D

big brother or what?

Dear USC adcoms,

Thank you!

Cheers,
Emily

I want the job at USC of monitoring CC ; )

whooaaa

hi admisions pplz! except me 2 you're collage!

wow, that is crazy, phew I don't think i posted anything too riskay

waaaait....what if they are pretending to be one of us....hmmmm

sfgiants...do you have something to tell us? hahahha jk

LOL but how would they know how any of us are?

do they do it just to get a general view of what goes on here?

just in case though, USC LET ME IN :D

Well, this is a public place. Anyone can log on and see what you say. So you don't want to post anything you wouldn't want an adcom to see :)

oh of course that's true.

i guess they just look here to see what students say and just get a general idea?

kind of like teachers that visit that teaching rating site. hahaha

lol haha yeah... where is sfgiants? ;)

and good luck to everyone who has his/her interview!!!

:shifty:

Haha but in all seriousness this is news to me too. Interesting that they told you at the welcome session though. In what context was it brought up?

About a year ago a friend who works in Berkeley admissions told me how much the staff enjoys reading the CC posts so I knew this was likely. Even so, am I the only one who looked back through what I've written a little nervously?

As an old fogey parent I am always lecturing my kids about what they post on Facebook or MySpace, particularly during application season. One of my Ds said, very cavalierly, "Oh everybody has incriminating stuff online now." I very indignantly replied, "Well, I don't!" Long pause.... and then she explained that she'd put a very funny and embarrassing picture of ME on her Facebook page and that her friends thought it was hilarious. Later my other D's friend who goes to a completely different college said he'd printed it out and stuck it on his bulletin board. Argh!

"hi admisions pplz! except me 2 you're collage!"

lol

anyway, if you think about it now that its out and there's a thread on this it probably wont make much of a difference cuz everyones gonna be posting how much they love USC etc etc... now that people know its useless for USC to check in order to determine admission or interest, i guess they coudl still do it to get a kick out of seeing over anxious high school seniors posting threads and stuff...

haha I doubt they do it to check for interest of specific people since no one knows for sure who each one of us are. They're probably just looking to see what kinds of questions we have and how to improve their process so later classes will not have the same problems or worries... just so admissions can be aware of what goes on.

and I bet some of it is comic relief as well... like this thread...
perhaps showing that we are actually real people with concerns and personalities... and not robots spitting out apps

Transperancy in the admissions process is a good thing. The more everyone has access to the same info, the more fair the process will be. USC is one of the more active areas on this board. Kuddos to the admissions staff for being so up front about this.
