USC Norman Topping Student Aid Fund

Did anyone else get this e-mail or was it sent to only a few students?

It looks like alot of work and I'm not even accepted yet.
It is asking for 2 LORs and other essays.

I applied for December 15 deadline.

Does completing the application add an extra "thing" to your undergrad application?

Please and Thank You

probably everybody, I got it too.

This is not sent to everybody. The Topping Fund is the only student initiated, student paid and partially student administered aid fund in the United States. It is for students with high financial need.

The extra forms are indicated because these are grants, not loans. The students who receive them are carefully selected. They are expected to demonstrate a strong level of community awareness in their pursuit of higher education.

The fund attempts to combine all available forms of financial aid along with the NTSAF award in order to receive as much as possible of the aid package debt free.

The goals are:

To create a sense of community among Topping Scholars.
To empower the scholars by providing quality programming and student -centered service.
To encourage scholars to embrace community service.
To maintain the intergrity of the governing board.
To promote and maintain the original spirit of the fund.

Note: NTSAF is predominately student run and administered.

If selected, this fund will provide your family quite a bit of money over the four year period for certain college expenses. In my opinion, you have everything to gain by filling out the forms.

How competitive would you think this program is?

Yeah, my parent’s income (combined) is less than $40,000, but were not dirt poor. And we live in a middle class subarb of Los Angeles.

But, I find the goals and mission of the program very very real and beneficial. I will definitely apply.
