USC, NYU, or Emory Political Science/Prelaw?

Hi everyone, i've been accepted to all three schools...FA package is about the same for all....
i'm studying poly sci and maybe international relations and business which school is the best? thanks!

I believe getting into Stern’s bschool from another college within is very competitive.

As much as it kills this die hard Bruins fan to admit, all of the schools on your list are very very good. If you can afford it, visit each institution and decide which one you like the best. Since you did post this on Emory’s sub-forum you should note that unlike at USC or NYU, Emory’s b-school doesn’t admit freshmen and forces people to apply at the beginning of their second semester sophomore year. That means you have more opportunities to explore the fields you’re interested in, and then if you decide that you want to go to Goizueta, you apply, and have a high likelihood of getting in.

Emory!!! Higher ranked, good bus school and law school.

My breakdown:

NYU -

  • Located in downtown NYC
  • Better chance of getting into a big investment bank/consulting firm, even if Emory’s business program is ranked higher by some.
  • Cost of living will murder you
  • No real campus to speak of
  • Highest ranked poly sci program of the three
  • Highest ranked business program of the three (USNWR)

USC -

  • Located in LA
  • Ridiculously loyal alumni network
+/- Do you want to live on the West coast?
  • Lowest ranked poly sci program of the 3

Emory -

  • ATL is cheaper than NYC and LA
+/- ATL is smaller than NYC and LA
  • Not as much lay recognition as USC or NYU
  • Higher ranked than USC/NYU in general
+/- 2nd highest ranked poly sci program
  • Highest ranked business program of the 3 (Businessweek)

If you’re absolutely commited to poly-sci, I would go NYU (assuming money is no object and you didn’t get a better financial deal from the others).

Don’t go to the west coast for poly sci stuff. You may get stuck there and LA is a long way from DC.

Not as much lay recognition as USC and NYU??? For what, football and theatre?! Maybe among the average person, but in the academic world Emory has as much if not probably more prestige.
