Hi! I'm applying to art schools but I'm also applying to these academic schools as an art major. They all require portfolios. My work is very traditional fine art, the link to my portfolio is at the bottom of this post.

GPA: 3.74 UW 4.1 W
I have 3.88 every year expect during Sophomore year there were extenuating circumstances that made my GPA drop a lot but I discuss this in an additional section and my counselor also talks about it. I think most colleges will overlook it the GPA slip that year.

Senior year 1st semester: UW 3.88, W4.64 I'm taking 6 AP classes.

SAT:
1920 Superscore (all schools but UCLA superscore)
1880 single sitting

SATII: US History 660, Literature 650
AP: US History 4, English Language 4, Chem 4.

Recs: No idea, I haven't read them. I'm assuming they are strong.
Essays: Excellent
Portfolio: I think it's strong, here's the link. If you've never seen a naked person, sorry in advance about the nude model drawings: Pictures by femmefatal333 - Photobucket

-For Brown, I'm also applying to RISD under the Dual Degree program. I'm not majoring in art at Brown, but I did send in the supplement.
-At NYU, the art is 50% of admissions, same with UCLA and USC.

I don’t know much about the RISD-Brown program, except that it’s VERY selective.
I think your art portfolio is good- but no offense- I’ve seen better among my friends. I noticed your work isn’t very varied. I have friends that can sculpt, paint, draw, and use digital media (all) at a very high level. But again, I’m not into art so different schools may have different requirements and I don’t know.

I think your biggest problem is your numbers. Maybe Brown holds RISD-Brown applicants to a different standard, but a 1920 or 29 wouldn’t cut it regular admission. You have a very rigorous curriculum, but only an okay average. But, even then, it depends on your “extenuating circumstances” sophomore year.

As per the other schools, I’m not familiar with the UC system. But for NYU, I say you’re good.
Good luck!!

@chachacha I put the disclaimer that my portfolio is purely traditional art. Digital imaging isn’t part of that. I’m not sure if you could tell, I probably should’ve put labels, but I have drawings, paintings, and a sculpture. The only reason why I don’t have more sculpture is because it’s not what I want to focus on but I have 3 more sculptures.

I’m not sure if it would make a difference, but I’ve already been accepted to RISD- yesterday in fact.

I visited Brown and fell in love with RISD. Unfortunately, I can’t draw… I’ll probably try the dual degree at Hopkins/Peabody and NU/Bienen. Are you going to go there even if you don’t get into Brown?

Thanks guys! @betc27: I’m not sure. I think it depends on if I get into my other top choices and how much money/finaid I get from them. RISD gave me a pretty generous scholarship, about half tuition.
