So i got into both (College of Arts and Sciences for both) and i will get half tution at USC and no finaid from Duke besides loans. For a long time i wanted to go to USC, but now that ive been looking at Duke, ive become conflicted. Idk what i want to study (prob something creative, classes in film, art, and literature and writing, but also maybe political science or businessy classes) and i felt like Duke would allow me to explore my interests more freely while at USC there are so many different individualized colleges and idk how much i would be allowed to take at each one. plus duke is a higher rated school, but USC has the half tuition and LA...

so whats your advice for me

thanks

jobe, I don’t know anything about Duke but I do know that USC very much encourages exploration and interdisciplinary studies. If you are a scholarship recipient and have a decently high SAT, you may want to apply to the TO program…sounds right up your alley

yeah thanks im applying for that right now

I’m facing a similar dilemma between USC and NYU and i’ll be honest for me it’s all going to come down to the money, which means I’ll probably end up at USC. NYU gave me 13K in scholarships and I have to come up with the rest. I’m still waiting on my aid package from USC but i’ll be honest because I believe this applies to your situation as well after a certain point the difference in the education you will recieve at top schools just becomes negligable. USC is an amazing school in an amazing city and you will come out with half the debt you would get if you went to Duke.

USC really encourages interdisciplinary study and even offers a scholarship for it. [USC Renaissance Scholars](http://www.usc.edu/programs/ugprograms/renaissance/)

It’s quite easy to take a few courses in different departments and to minor in business or whatever else you like. USC has like 150 minors or something ridiculous.

Another link that might be helpful: [Schedule of Classes: Fall 2009: Courses of Interest](http://www.usc.edu/academics/classes/term_20093/interest.html#bus)

I would definitely advise taking the half scholarship and go to USC. I suggest you type in minors in the search box at USC.edu and you will see an awesome list of minors in many different areas to expand your interests.
