So, which one? lol. I am leaning toward Emory at the moment!
USC cost- 44ishk with room and board (13k scholarship)
Emory cost- 53ishk with room and board (0k scholarship :()

I have the same decision, only it is kind of opposite in a way. USC will cost me more than Emory.

What do you all want to major in? That’s an important factor in your decision. And the cost for Emory for the Fall 2012- Spring 2013 year is $58,180.

He isn’t including anything superfluous like travel expenses or books, which is fine since he is comparing the schools on equal grounds.

yup, nihility is correct!
I’m sorry for forgetting to tell you guys my major… I want to primarily major in biology for pre-med… business is another option for a double major

Certain schools are known for certain things, for example Harvard and law go hand in hand; Georgia Tech with engineering. Emory is top notch with all things medicine. I’m going for a double major in Chemistry and Women’s Studies pre-med, and I have heard nothing but good things about Emory’s pre-med program.

I would definitely go to USC. It is a lot bigger than Emory and you’ll have much more “college life” there. What do you want to major in though? USC has more majors than Emory (which means more opportunities for you). Also there are more fun things to do as an undergrad in LA than in Atlanta. (just my personal opinion!)

^I want to major in biology with a possible doube in business/econ

Emory has great profs in the pre-med courses. They are very generous with their time outside of class. You will really learn the subjects well. Lots of opportunities to get clinical and research experience at Grady, CDC, with profs, etc.

Actually, I like Atlanta a lot. Both cities have urban activities.

There is a big difference in the number of students. Do you want to be one of 6,000 undergrads or one of 18,000? Are there any extracurricular activities you want to participate in?

The cost is negligible. Emory has a stronger pre-med/ bio programs

Go to Emory! It is MUCH safer than USC which is not in a great neighborhood. Unfortunately two students were shot to death yesterday during a car-jacking right outside USC. I’m sorry to say, this is nothing new - USC is in a very unsafe part of L.A.

Usc is my dream school, but Emory seems to be a better fit according to your major perhaps. Great options

This is not a freak incident. Four USC students have been shot this year. Two survived–one barely–and these two did not. All of these incidents occurred just blocks of campus, places you (or your daughter/son) will be living during their junior and senior years. Smaller crimes are frequent. Earlier this year, someone broke into the home of a student blocks from campus, held a knife to the girl’s neck, and then tied her up with a power cord. Students are mugged, shoved off of bikes, and sexually assaulted. USC tries to downplay the amount of crime in the area and, it is true, as a freshman/sophomore, you will be insulated from the area and will feel very safe. But ever since leaving campus, not a day has gone by that I don’t worry about how I will get home, how I will walk to my car, etc. And though USC has taken steps to address the amount of crime in the area, USC is not as safe as it appears to prospective students. I thought you all had a right to know, especially since it seems the crimes are getting worse and worse, what with this tragic double homicide.

USC definitely isn’t among the safest campuses around, but Emory also has (a little) crime.
A good friend of mine goes to USC, and I honestly worry for her because she grew up naiive and sheltered (and she does stupid stuff like go on walks at night).

I honestly think it’s an extremely overrated school (unless you’re a hot girl looking to score. or an athlete. or a fashion/film/music major).
However, despite my personal bias against and hate for USC, USC does have a lot of stuff going for it.

i think business at emory is overrated (and i know nothing about business at usc) but premed/bio/chem here are simply superb (and much better than their counterparts in USC).

Emory has better medical and business programs whereas USC might have an edge in the acting/media/entertainment industries

Are you only concerned about the money?

My son who went to a top law school would tell you to go where you could get the highest GPA.

Both schools are fantastic and you have great choices. Good luck!

Honestly, I say Emory. Looking at your majors, you would benefit completely from the amazing medical research and wonderful business professors at Emory. As previously stated, Emory ranks in medical research and in business. (Starting salary for business school is 80+k)

“My son who went to a top law school would tell you to go where you could get the highest GPA.”

Law school admissions are all coordinated through LSAC (it’s like Common App). LSAC adjusts undergraduate GPAs to a common standard.
