usc or nyu

Whichever you get into.

If you have the choice, USC.

what about uncsa?

Not as well known or respected in the business as USC or NYU.

USC is better for film.

USC is better in terms of the program and location. The film industry is a crapshoot however. Unless you’re naturally talented and want to go to film school to maximize your talent, you’ll likely have a lot of difficulty getting a job out of film school (and likely, a lot of accompanying debt.)

I’d choose USC. You will also be near where the action is happening in LA.

Elizabeth: There are helpful threads on this topic & knowledgeable posters in the Visual Arts forum. A search will bring up a wealth of information and views.

NYU for experimental / independent.

USC if you qualify for aid.

Both very good. Neither guarantees you’ll get opps just for being there or future work just for having the degree. It hinges on you, hard work, determination, skills- and luck.

They are both excellent programs, but different. If you can visit both you will get a good sense of what each is like. USC has more of a campus, and has more of an industry focus, Both are in the middle of vibrant cities: but very different vibes. My son was fortunate to be admitted to both, and chose USC. You however might make a different choice after learning about each.
