USC or Stanford? Help!

Ok, everyone on here might think im crazy for even conisdering this, but i'm stuck choosing between USC and Stanford.I'm an International student (English, living in Italy). I have been admitted to both to study Drama. My goal is to become an actress in future, so being in L.A. is a real upside, meaning i can get a start in the professional world, but at the same time, the possibility that you fail in the entertainment industry is so high, that it seems logical to get a degree from Stanford. I'm a hard worker, but i am also a bit of a party girl, so i like to have a good time. I have been to USC a few times, and really liked the place, the people and the campus. Stanford, on the other hand i only saw for a few hours, most of which i spent inside a room doing an audition. I'm really stuck, so any help would be really appreciated- Thank you!

Last night I was with a USC alumni/actress who told me the bullitin boards in the school of theater are full of notices of casting calls in LA.

That being known, do you want to "study" drama or go out and actually do it?

Stanford hands down. You shouldn't even be asking yourself this.

You've gotta be kidding right? Stanford. Then forget you ever asked this question.

if she's doing drama, it might be better to get "connections" from the Trojan Network, Stanford feels more academically oriented like the sciences as opposed to drama

Again, Stanford hands down. She wants to do drama, but is her heart set on it? I would advise her to keep her future as flexible as possible.

hey guys.
My mind is really set on Drama, it's what i've always wanted to do, and i'll stop at nothing to get it. This is why it's so hard. I really want to be an actress, so even though stanford is amazing as a university, USC does have a better course when it comes to the practical part of drama.

Good choice, in my opinion. The lead in Eurotrip got the part just out of USC if I remember correctly.

^ Haha really? Thats interesting.

USC arguably has the best theatre programme.

Of course Stanford is a great school, but if you are looking into theatre and drama, USC is better for it. Stanford is more known for its academics than an allaround school. USC can offer more with that field you are studying or want to get into in the future. I'd say USC. (No, I'm not crazy. And yes I know Stanford is an extremely excellent school.)

the connections you make is crucial; having the Trojan Network is a plus over Stanford regarding Drama.

Having the Stanford name will trump anything USC can bring to the table. HTH.

if you are banking on drama, go to USC no question. however if you do anything else stanford woulda put you way ahead. USC is an outstanding school as well, so its not like it will stop you from achieving success either way.

The Stanford name will get you jobs in the movie biz. You can act in plays and such in San Francisco, then move to LA after you get your BA and start looking for work. If you have talent, then they should cast you no matter what. But I bet that they'd give a Stanford grad an extra edge. Reese Witherspoon went to Stanford, John Lithgow went to Harvard, David Duchovny went to Yale. It's not unheard of. And if you don't like Hollywood, you'll have a Stanford degree to fall back on.

xxuxsxcxx do you even go to usc... How do you assess that going to stanford, where drama is virtually nonexistent, will make an actress's career simply based on its academic reputation. I guess Palo Alto must also have a leg up on entertainment compared to Los Angeles huh.

Yes I do. USC is a decent school, but is nowhere in the realm of Stanford. Stanford will give her many choices in life, while at USC she'll be stuck wondering "What if I went to Stanford?". Your myopic optimism in USC's ability to deliver is commendable, but is misguided. HTH.

My "myopic optimism in USC's ability to deliver is commendable, but is misguided," ummm how about the person just goes to the school with the best department? Your post is ever so ignorant, maybe you really should consider transferring if you really have indignation toward your own school, usc especially.

You're too unrealistic. Thinking USC can compete with Stanford at any level is futile, even I realize this. I'd say only our accounting department can match up with Stanford on a world-class level. Stanford doesn't have one, but again, I think it's our only world-class instituion.

I contemplated transferring after my frosh year, but it would have been unwise because of the amount of work I already put into the school.

Your post is ignorant to assume that the OP will have the same desires four years from now as she has today. Now that is true ignorance, HTH.

without a doubt, STANFORD.
