USC or UCSB? Please help!

@summersunn120 Yes, I’m aware of the surrounding area. Of course the crime rate is a little concerning, but that’s not a big concern right now considering that I plan to stay on campus most of time. I’m going to visit so I’ll get a firsthand experience with it this week.
@mikemac This is true. If I were to attend UCSB, then I would go in undecided and explore a bit. I would want to major in communications for marketing or business/econ if I don’t find something else appealing. Do you think a UC degree is overall more respected than a USC degree? I know USC is big on connections so I assume that could help me when trying to find a job. Also, what do you mean by specific classes?

By “specific classes” I meant classes in things like marketing and other traditional business subjects. As for more respected, I think you might find my answer disappointing. What YOU do in college is going to matter more than the name of the school on the diploma. Of course my answer depends on the name on the diploma. If you were talking Stanford and these two, clearly Stanford is going to stand out.

The difference, even if there is one, between a degree from the UC system or from USC is far less important than what you bring to the table. If you have some internships, if you have some leadership in college, if you have a good GPA, these are all things employers look at. Internships probably the most. Students that think it’s enough to just show up for class and get a degree are often in for a rude awakening their senior year.

@mikemac That was in fact very helpful! So thank you! I intend to do lots of internships and join several clubs no matter what school I attend.
