which is a better institution? which one would u prefer and why?

It depends on what you want to major in. If your considering the sciences, go UCSD. Also, the area where UCSD is gorgeous (way better the part of LA where is) and has tons of things to do. I have lived in the San Diego area my whole life and went to high school in La Jolla, and it's a beautiful and relaxed place. Also, if you want to have spectacular views and easy beach access, go to UCSD! Plus, it's a better deal than USC. (By the way, I don't to UCSD, but my friends who do, love it.)

depends on what you are studying

I really see no point for anyone to attend USC and pay all that money if they aren't studying business or accounting through Marshall

The engineering school at usc is good but UCSD's engineering is just as good.

If it's some kind of liberal arts or science, go to the UC's

which is more prestigious?

wow....

so you're basically going because you want prestige?

really bad idea.

if your a cali resident i would go for ucsd.

Going for prestige is not necessarily bad - at times, the reputation of your school just may be the single factor that can place you at a good graduate institution. When one speaks of prestige, I think a delineation is called for, which demands that one specifies either the need for "social prestige" as in "telling my friends that I attend Yale" - the bad kind of prestige - or "academic prestige" as in "which school would give me an edge in competitive graduate school admissions?" - the good kind of prestige. College counselors are ready to field questions that pertain to graduate school placement just for this reason: because it is a concern that students take seriously when choosing a school, and it is a valid concern.

USC is more rowdy. UCSD is chill....alittle TOO chill....sometimes quite boring. SD is in a better area...la jolla is VERY nice. SC is kinda in the ghettos of LA. I would say SC is more prestigious, more school spirit, lots more to do. USC is also around more things in my opinion, LA, beach, melrose, beverly hills, hollywood. But yea....SD is awesome in their medical field. and SC buisness, Marshall is crazy. All preference my friend. OH also u gotta keep in mind that SC u gotta pay an extra 20Gs a year =D

if you're the type with massive school spirits, go to USC and attend the football game...if you're a science major, go to UCSD...

ucsd is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! if you like to meet new people everyday around campus, ucsd's great. usc's more up-market...easy access, safe campus even though beyond its boundaries there isn't a thing which could be more filthier. both are great schools...the former, money wise ha ha.

by prestigious i meant the kind when i apply to graduate school, which would be looked upon as a better institution. i have done some research into this and it says on ucsd's website that a B.A. from their school can get a person into pretty much any prestigious, highly ranked graduate school. Also, when i compare the world rankings, ucsd come in at #13, but usc comes in at 43. In this london times rankings, usc comes in at # 180. But in the USNEWS and world report, usc is better ranked than ucsd, at number 30 versus 35. so when i apply to graduate school, which school would give one an edge?

student4u, I recommend speaking to an admissions counselor at UCSD to determine how well they place students in graduate programs.

If you are a California resident, and your major is anything other than business, you would be a pretentious fool to go to USC over UCSD.

would i still be a fool if i recived financial aid?
