USC Or UCSD?

can anyone give me some advice?
i'm majoring in EE
USC give me a lot, SD give me only2k but i end up paying the same for both
which one should i go? i heard USC is more like a party school? dunno where should i go lolol

USC gave you a lot. You will be paying the same at both schools. USC is a party school. Now what is your question again? USC is paying you to party and get educated. What is the problem here?

Both schools have very different environments, it just depends where YOU feel you would fit in best. Have you visited both campuses?

As a side note, I would’ve given my right arm to go to USC! If you fit in there, go there.

ucsandiego915, could you clarify why you would haave given your right arm for usc. Is it due to their sports, academics, your specific major? I assume you at ucsd. I am considering ucsd (instate) for computer engg/computer science. Also, my other alternative is usc (full tuition). I have not gotten a convincing answer so far why I should pay more for usc.

go to usc.

you will actually get a job right out of school if you go to usc, but if you end up at ucsd like myself, you will have to fend for yourself.

hanauma, what is your major?

international relations

^ that explains your fending.

FWIW - UCSD is ranked higher than USC in engineering in general and in EE in particular according to USNWR -

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/engineering-majors/382751-usnews-2008-engineering-ranking-compilation.html</a></p>

But I agree with the poster above who said to visit both campuses and their surrounding areas and consider where you’d prefer to live for the next 4 or so years. They’re both good.

ucsd09 : If you have not gotten a convincing answer for why you should pay more for USC, then it sounds like you shouldn’t go there. For me it would have been a great fit overall, but if you think UCSD is a good fit for YOU then you should come here.

Obviously I love UCSD too since I post on CC frequently!

Well, if you want to live in the middle of East LA and be surrounded by gang violence and the crips and bloods, then USC is the easy answer.

Do your homework… after checking this website I found that the “safest” cities do not necessarily have the safest campus.’ I would say USC and UCSD are relatively safe places to be compared to many other campus’ in the USA.

for 2007
USC
[College Navigator - University of Southern California](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - University of Southern California)

UCSD
[College Navigator - University of California-San Diego](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - University of California-San Diego)

Arrests On Campus
Illegal weapons possession USC-2 UCSD-2
Drug Law Violations USC-19 UCSD-57
Liquor Law Violations USC-0 UCSD-87

Criminal Offenses on campus:
Sex Offenses forcible: USC-0; UCSD 2
Robbery USC - 22; UCSD- 2
Aggravated assault - USC 6; UCSD 2
Burglary- USC 43; UCSD-55
Motor vehicle theft: USC 12; UCSD-33
Arson USC 3; UCSD-4

lol… Why do I really not believe that USC had no liquor law violations in that entire year. Perhaps nobody bothered to check, or report, because there’s no way that they drink any less.

I agree about the liquor law violations… but that particular stat is most likely under-reported on possibly ALL campus.’ Burglary, Rape, Robberies, Car theft… are probably more accurate. What is interesting is that these on campus crimes are pretty minimal for the huge populations of these schools. Compare to other schools.

honestly
go to UCSD for EE
better engineering, better location, just a quieter environment

lagunal:

Those crime stats are for “on-campus”. I think when people refer to the different colleges in this regard they’re talking about not just the campus but the surrounding area since few college students want to be holed up on just the campus. When it comes to USC I think it’s the surrounding area where people have most of their concerns regarding crime.

Those stats mean jack squat unless you stay on campus 24/7. Check crime statistics for South LA and La Jolla.

I live minutes away from USC and absolutely hate this (South Central) community.

Ok. You need to take a look at EVERYTHING.

Educationally, USC is superior, but for EE UCSD is superior. So you need to look, do you want the better GPA first 2 years when you take classes you may not like or later on when you take classes that you’ll enjoy.

Location. Screw where USC is located. It is a private school so LEGALLY non-students cant be on the campus unless they are with a current student. And everything that you’ll need is on campus so you wont have to get off as much. And it is NOT located in East LA. No doubt the surrounding region isnt that nice. But so long as you arent walking off campus at 1 AM by yourself, you’ll be good.

Noise level. Both schools will be equally quiet. But really, shouldnt you be studying in the library?

Social Life. Hands down USC has a better one. I want the socially dead rumor at UCSD to stop after this next year.

Financially. UCSD is cheaper. We’ve established that. But you should look at financial aid, loans, if you’re going to work and which one will be cheaper. Also, you have to take a look at the scholarships you’ve applied for and the ones you can put towards USC/UCSD.

Take a look at that and everything else and let us know how things go for you
