I am an undergrad looking for a research based University. I thought USC and UIUC would be my pick. But I am stuck in which one to choose. I have a very good inclination towards computers and I am not that bothered about location as long as I get my "money's worth" education. I am impressed by compter science center at UIUC but flattered by the trojan spirit.

Every relevant reply would be a gospel to me! thank you!

reply on!! reply on!!

Oh! yeah...all my SAT scores are 700+

Also why is the acceptance rate of UIUC and Purdue so high?

well first of all to answer your question, the acceptance rate of UIUC and Purdue is high because they majorly accept in-state students. For example, i used to live right next to purdue and from my high school, like more than 50-60% of graduating seniors went there with either full scholarship or half reduced tuition. So, basically if you do pretty decent in high school, both are relatively easy to get in for in state students.

So, if you want to do computer science or engineering area, i say both schools are relatively good in those area except i would prefer UIUC more than Purdue. Idk really know the engineering department in USC, but i think it is ok or good…idk.

I would recommend that you would research more schools and find more of them so that you can apply several when the time comes.

Particularly at UIUC, the acceptance rates are skewed by the other colleges. While the engineering school is one of the most selective in the country, many of the other colleges at UIUC are pretty typical in their acceptance rates.

You’ll wind up with a great education at either school. Where do you want to be?

Southern California in the largest city on the west coast? Sunshine and smog year round. Never have to worry about the weather though.

Or ChamBana? A university campus that stretches across two cities. The epitome of the midwest mega-campus. You’ll see what a real winter is like, and get a chance to experience the heart of our country.

Well I knowthat UIUC and Purdue is very competitive with engineering, other colleges within the university are also near top or not really ranked. Purdue doesn’t seem to do well in social sciences like UIUC, Purdue wasn’t even ranked by USNEWS for many social sciences.
