USC - Out of State?

Hey I'm a floridian... how much would that hurt me if and when i apply to University of Southern Cal?

I know it's not on the state school system, but i heard that they still favor californians or west coasters.

if i'm at a disadvantage, what kind of grades and scores would i need to get in?

thanks

-Will

I think that maybe the only reason why it seems like they favor californians or west coasters is because a large majority of their applicant pool comes from these places (probably because lots of west coasters prefer to stay in the west coast). If anything, I think you may have a slight (and I mean very slight) advantage on Califonians because you are from Florida- schools like to add to the diversity of their student body population

I really don't think you need higher test scores than usual.

i dont think they favor west coasters over east coasters. its true that most of their students come from cal and southern cal in specific. but usc's student boday comes from all over the united states and the world.

all private schools prefer a geograpically diverse student body, so coming from Florida is a slight plus over a Calif resident. Of course the reverse would be true on apps to Coral Gables. :)
