USC Overlapping Scholarships?

Is it possible to recieve more than 1 merit-based scholarship at USC, and is it common for other schools of similar calibre to overlap more than one scholarship?

You have to read each school’s website. Sometimes you can’t “stack” scholarships, sometimes you can. Some schools have rules that you can only get scholarships “up to” a certain amount…such as up to tuition.

Sometimes schools will let you stack a “university” scholarship with a “dept” scholarship.

What scholarships in particular are you looking at?

Yes and no. In general, the “big” scholarships are mutually exclusive, but smaller departmental awards can often be added (and often are), but the amount is limited (see below). Outside scholarships can be added to USC scholarships up to the cost of attendance.

The new Mork Scholarships will also fall under the following guidelines.

USC Scholarship descriptions: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1112/uscScholarships1213v2.pdf

You can not stack most at USC. There is one scholarship that can be stacked- I don’t remember which, sorry. I know that is really unhelpful. However, if you get both the largest scholarship and the 1 stackable scholarship you can actually have your scholarship exceed tuition, and you would get something like $2,000 extra every year. Plus a free laptop. That situation is pretty unlikely though, and only a few students get that.

To clarify, my post #3 concerns the University of Southern California. blaserk’s post #4 may (or may not) be referring to South Carolina.

University of Southern California’s scholarships include over 150 full-tuition Trustee scholarships and 20 Mork scholarships which are full-tuition plus $5,000, as well as literally hundreds of other scholarships including the 1/2 tuition Presidential and the 1/2 tuition plus $1,000 NMF Presidential.

As mentioned previously, departmental awards can be combined with most USC scholarships up to a set limit.
