I vaguely recall someone from USC Financial Services speaking at Orientation and encouraging us to apply for the USC Payment Plan ASAP if planning to use it for the Fall semester. Unfortunately, I can't remember the reason why. Is there ANY downside to waiting until mid-August to set it up? The first installment + $50 is due immediately upon applying for the plan so I'd rather put if off for a few weeks unless doing so could cause problems on either my end or the USC end. I assume that the four subsequent installments are due on the 1st of the month starting Sept 1 regardless of the date of the first payment ...is that correct? Thanks in advance for anyone's help with this.

It’s 5 installments starting with Aug 1 for freshman undergrads. The 4 installment plan was for a specific major (law? nursing? dental? - can’t remember!) If you google ‘USC payment plan’ you will get all the info. Very easy to set up with the guest link through Oasis.

What happens if I wait until AFTER August 1 to set it up?

You should call (or check the webpage) but I think I read that the Aug 1 payment is due the day you set it up. So my thinking is that if you wait until say Aug 15th, you owe the Aug 1 payment then and another payment due on Sept 1. The first payment as well as the semester $50 charge is due whenever you set up that first payment.

Yes, in the past, when we have set up the payment plan after the 1st payment was due, the charge to set up the plan & the 1st payment were due on the day we set up the plan, with the next payment due on the 1st of the following month.

One thing I liked was that you could have the charge automatically put on your credit card every month, so you wouldn’t forget & have potential late fees. You can also get whatever benefits your credit card gives you for making charges. If the student lives in university housing, that can also be included in the payment plan, as can fees assessed by USC.

Pretty sure bills have to be settled August 24? Anyway I can’t set up my payment plan yet because my D is attending the last orientation August 20-22. Payment plan can’t be activated until after registration. So they can’t really say it was due August 1 on that basis.

Be sure to set up the payment plan & make payment BEFORE final settlement date to avoid a late charge. If there is a problem with doing this (like your D’s late orientation), let Bursur’s/Cashier’s office know so they can waive late fee & get it done as soon as possible.

Thanks squiggles and HImom for your help…it looks like it’s perfectly fine to wait until mid-August to set this up, as long as it’s before August 24. Snowdog, I’d definitely check with the USC Payment Plan office now about your D’s late orientation and registration. My guess is that there are various fees, charges, and credits that won’t even be calculated until registration is complete (it may be like getting an extension on your tax return…guesstimate the amount, make a payment, make adjustments later).

Yeah I checked the website on this. It looks fine. I won’t have time to dilly dally but should be able to get it done in the 48 hours after registration. My oasis log in is all set and working, credit cards uploaded and ready for their workout.

You can definitely set up the payment plan until the settlement date…they will just take the August 1st payment immediately…and you will have your September 1st payment due shortly thereafter. But it is a basically interest free method to pay off tuition, housing( if in USC housing), etc…and much appreciated by many of us :)
