USC Price Policy, Planning, Development, vs Econ vs Marshall

Hi all,

I was recently accepted to USC and have some questions about possible majors. I am currently interested in each of the majors in the title and plan to pursue a minor in cinematic arts with whichever I choose. Does anyone have any experience with the quality and rigor of each of these majors? I've heard planning is very difficult, that Econ is not a strong department and that Marshall, despite the hoopla is not that great of a program either, though it produces successful graduates.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Note: I'm a history major in Dornsife right now and understand the transfer process for each major and that getting into Marshall is by no means a given.

Bumpabumpabump

I just sent in a request to change to Marshall because O believe it would be easier to transfer out of Marshall than into it once classes begin. Does anyone have any idea how the difficulty of a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate compares to the difficulty of a BS in Policy, Planning and Development with a focus in Development?

I’m no longer considering Economics.

Why you no longer studying Econ?

I think the other two majors fit my interests more closely

And I’ve heard bad things about the Econ program

Doing Marshall with a minor in PPD (Real Estate Development) right now. They don’t do concentrations anymore.

I’d say the PPD classes are definitely more work-intensive than the marshall classes, but because they don’t curve you really see a payoff in terms of grades (My PPD GPA is much higher than my Marshall one). It’s definitely easier to transfer out of Marshall after already getting in, so I would recommend taking a few PPD classes to test it out to see if you like them (PPD362 is the intro class required for the PPD minor) and if you don’t, no biggie.

Thanks for the response! It sounds like you’re very well qualified to answer my question. Would you mind elaborating a little more on how the PPD classes are more work intensive than the Marshall ones? The Marshall grading curve makes sense, unfortunate as it is. Since it appears we have similar interests, what factors made you choose to pursue a Marshall major and a PPD minor as opposed to the opposite?

It’s too bad to hear about concentrations, I was just basing my information on this page [USC Marshall » Undergraduate Programs](<a href=“USC Marshall”>USC Marshall)

And if I might ask, which focus are you in Price and how do you like it?

Can you give any examples on their Econ. program?

I don’t remember hearing it, it was more that it’s not as touted as the other programs may be, I haven’t heard “bad” things, just that it isn’t the strongest at USC
