Hello everyone! I am considering applying to USC RHP and am wondering what my chances are:

EC:

Internship at USC in the LAC/USC Virology Lab under their best oncology professor

Letter of Recs: Intern mentor and Chem teacher

Wow, definitely sounds like you’ve got a shot! With that many AP’s and a rigorous workload (from a respectable high school, no less), you’re on the right track. You’ve got a really great award at the state level, too! Paired with a prestigious internship like that I can’t say you’ve got any less than a decent chance at getting in.

I’d say just keep what you’ve got up and maybe re-take your SAT. USC’s Residential Honors Program is quite a competitive one and you’d do well to have a buffer there. All in all, though, you seem quite the motivated student and I’ve got every faith that you’ll go far in life whether or not you are accepted. Best of luck, and cheers!

I second anonito: while your SAT scores should probably be replaced, you’ve got a GREAT shot. For a junior, you’ve got a very ambitious schedule, as well as a great amount of APs. Your ecs are also very decent since they tell colleges that you’re very well rounded. Your internship at USC definitely helps. Firstly, a lot of juniors don’t do internships, and secondly, working with such a prof like that is not commonly seen.

Keep it up, and you’ll def see yourself in RHP.

You have some great stats but RHP is very selective and they look for something exceptional. To be honest, I wouldn’t be guaranteeing your regular admission on that bio, not that it isn’t good enough, it’s just that no one can. Junior workload is comparable to a lot of students that apply, SAT average to those seeking admission. Internship may work for you, it may not count anymore than another EC because of it’s short term and opportunistic nature. ECs are PR and an internship, a lot of kids have done something for years or have different variety, so you will be compared with them and you can’t know what everyone else is bringing. It is great to be hopeful, but better not to count on it. College admissions can devastate a lot of people because students set their expectations unrealistically. Good luck.

Stats wise, I would say that you have a shot. The internship would definitely count in your favor, though I wouldn’t put too much weight on it. I’m going to have to agree with blueskies that there really is no guarantee for your acceptance. However, I have to say that you’re a very special child, and if you keep up your quality work, you definitely have a chance at entering RHP.

In the mean time my SAT went up to M800, CR800, W800
I also campaigned for an won FBLA State VP.
In addition, I applied for and completed a research program at CSUF on the weekend on the topic of ADP-glc PPase.
I applied for research internships at Jackson Labs, Stanford, and City of Hope. Hopefully, I will intern in one of those placed. Will that give me a a decent shot at maybe Stanford ED? I am satisfied with at UC Berkeley and of course will apply to safeties.
