USC RHP Early Entrance Program

Hi, I'm currently a Junior in High School in Southern California. I'm looking into the RHP Program offered at USC to skip my Senior Year in High School to enroll at USC. I was wondering what the overall odds/competitiveness of the program is to see if it's even worth a shot applying for.

I have decent grades (not the best) and have yet to take an official SAT or ACT exam (I'm signed up to take the October 6th one). One of my selling points is that by the end of this junior year, I will have exhausted all of the math classes at my school (I'll have already taken AP Calculus BC and I'm taking AP Stats this year). Is this enough for me to have an opportunity to get in?

If anybody has any experience or knows a lot about the program, please let me know!

I’m considering at least applying, even if actually going to USC after my junior year wouldn’t be the most plausible thing. It seems like a really neat opportunity, and might provide some interesting insight into how competitive I would be in college applications that I’d fill out during my senior year. I have pretty competitive stats, in my opinion, as far as GPA and ACT score goes (4.0 UW, 4.4W, 36 Composite), but the fact that only 20-30 students are accepted still makes me nervous. Do you think we should we start a thread for people applying/thinking about applying this year?

The program is very competitive (~30 applicants accepted and ~20+ students attend each year). GPA/test scores/extracurriculars are important, but so are your essays and letters of rec. I would argue that demonstrated maturity and your reasons as to why you want to attend college early will have the strongest impact on whether you’re chosen. RHP definitely selects applicants based on “fit” for an early entrance program rather than just high stats.

I was an RHP student, so feel free to message me with any questions you might have. You should definitely start your own RHP thread for 2012-2013 so you can have your own little thread to slave over come application/admissions time :)

has anyone made a 2012 RHP applicant thread yet? I haven’t seen one so far…
