USC SCA Common App Question

Hi I’m new here.

I am applying to the USC School of Cinematic Arts as an international student.

My question is concerning the common app prompt. I will be writing a 1000 word personal statement separate to the common app prompt. Will SCA be reading both my personal statement AND my common app essay? I was thinking of answering the common app Q “Describe a problem you’ve solved or problem youd like to solve…” Would it be a problem if in this essay I DO NOT write about the cinematic arts? Could the essay be unrelated to the film industry? Would it look odd/suspicious if I write about some “problem” I’d like to solve that is UNRELATED to filming?

Thanks in advance

Hey! I’m applying as well and i didn’t make my common app essay about film at all. I don’t think you have to.

SCA only deals with your supplement, but they have access to your Common App essay. They don’t generally read it, but they can if they want to. That said, your CommonApp essay can be about anything in the world, mine was not about cinema at all.
