USC SCA Film Production Interview

@catzxo Oh, I hope so! That would mean only five more weeks!

Hi! I’m also asked to do Skype call with one of SCA’s lecturers on 17th afternoon. I’m applying for the Master program though, is there anyone here also applied for it? Let’s see if I can post questions asked by the interviewer. Wish we all good fortune! :smiley:

@thejokingjay Good luck to you!

Good luck! Are you applying for film production? @thejokingjay

@filmdreamer23 Thank you! Need it :smiley: Yes, I’m applying for Film Production Graduate program.

Wishing you the best of luck! Just make sure to relax and have fun with it. Tell me how it goes!

@thejokingjay

does it mean that you did not get accepted if you were not asked for an interview? I’m very nervous.

no it does not. From past years on CC it looks like at least as many, maybe more, get in without the interview. And some with the interview do not get in. My D interviewed last year but did not get in. @koalafiedtomajor

Hi guys! Just finished my interview with Prof Richard Burton. He’s very nice and really open for questions. So here’s the breakdown:
What he asked is basically just two things:

  1. How I will cover the expenses when I get accepted. This question I believe will be asked to everyone interviewed, so prepare a truthful answer.
  2. What I think about moving to big city such as Los Angeles.

What I recommend you to do: Be yourself and prepare LOTS of questions.
I mean it. This could be a good chance to ask anything film or USC related questions to someone from USC SCA.

Words of nerve-easing, there is one answer Prof Burton said that really hit me: advantages of studying in film school are that you can expand your filmmaker connection and get to make films with students with similar interest as yours. If you want to go to film school so you can get those, go get it hard, but if you want to go to film school so that you can make good films, believe that there are other ways to gain experience and required connection to achieve that dream. Wish you all very good luck! :x :x :x

@koalafiedtomajor No, don’t worry too much about it. From what I’ve read, some admitted students are not even interviewed, they just suddenly get the acceptance letter later on. It’s said that the interview is most likely your application reviewing prof’s initiative to get to know you better. The questions asked themselves are mostly found not heavy as if you’re “interviewed”; it’s more like a chat with a professor. So don’t worry, and good luck! :smiley:

Did you apply for film production? @thejokingjay

@filmdreamer23 yes, for Film Production Graduate Program.

@thejokingjay Well good luck to you!

My daughter was interviewed a few days ago too. She was so excited and got along great with the professor. But it seems from the answers here, it’s not a great indication of one’s chances. Does anybody know what the process is? I.e. how many different levels of review there are? And where the file goes from here? (assuming the interviewer likes the applicant and recommends him/her for acceptance, what other hurdles are there?). This question is particularly important because, even though USC is her 'dream" school, if she puts a nudge in with the right people at NYU/Tisch, she’d likely get in – but doesn’t want to do that unless totally commited to going there (i.e giving up on USC)! The horns of a dilemma…

@dzdjdjango That is a tough decision! I wish your daughter the best of luck though! I’d love to see her application video if she’s posted it anywhere. I applied to SCA and NYU for film production, too. :slight_smile:

Hi. I too was asked by email to interview with a professor by phone about a week ago. It lasted about an hour and everything seemed to have gone pretty well. I applied to USC as an undergrad for fall 2016. It was pretty nerve racking at first but the professor was very nice and we shared many common interests. Just wondering if your daughter applied as an undergrad and who the professor was that she spoke to. Let me know when convenient for you and best of luck to her!

And I also applied for film production.

@moorelovin1 My d interviewed a couple of weeks ago (as I posted earlier) It’s so hard to figure the process out! It’s interesting that interviews are still taking place. She applied for film production as well. Her interview was over SKPE and only lasted 18 minutes!!! Hope that’s not a bad sign. :frowning: Can’t wait to find out the decisions already! Did the professor you interviewed with give any indication as to when acceptances will be given out?
