@ocftv1997 wow that was a super unexpected ending! You must’ve spent a lot of time on it lol I procrastinated on mine for ages
Hey guys! I also applied to SCA for TV & Film production program.
@ocftv1997: great job on your film! Its super funny! The style sort of made me think of 21 jump street, which is one of my favorites.
@ofmunstersandmen: is there a link to your film? If so, I’d love to see it! I noticed that you said you did your piece on the experiences of black girls. Would it be too much for me to ask if you are a black girl? I am and I think it’d be super cool to get to know a few others who are also interested in pursuing film!
@extraordinairia I am!! It’s so cool that there’s another black girl applying! I definitely wanna put it up on youtube soon, I’ll definitely link it!
@ocftv1997 @extraordinairia What other schools are you guys applying to??
@ofmunstersandmen that sounds awesome! sorry I haven’t been active on this thread since I’m very nervous but I’m doing film production as well!
@koalafiedtomajor oh my god, I feel you. I’ve just put USC at the back of my mind to focus on chapman and LMU which were both extended to next week!!1
hey SCA fam, any good news?
@extraordinairia nope got deferred for FTV production. You?
no merit scholarship for me I’m still hopeful for admittance/film-based scholarships in March though!
I thought they weren’t even giving out acceptances until April. No answer as of right now is normal, right?
Yes, @filmdreamer23, in late January USC notified approx. 1,200 students of their admission to the university and offered them an opportunity to compete for their top merit scholarship awards – so the level of Presidential and Trustee, Stamps, Mork, basically the scholarships that are 1/2 to full tuition. Over 30,000 students applied in time to be considered for these scholarships, which coincidentally is the same date that the SCA application is due anyway (December 1). So, all that has happened is that that very small group of people has been notified of admission and will now decide whether to compete for a scholarship or not. The vast majority of students, 28-29,000 + have to wait until late March/early April to hear an admissions decision, along with the 20,000 or so more who applied after the December 1 scholarship consideration deadline (which would be no one applying to SCA). Based on other threads, the candidates for these scholarships are chosen by their major and the number for SCA seems to be 4-5 total, so again, based on the number of SCA candidates, a very, very small number and you are definitely in the “normal” group if you are still waiting. The profile of many of those admitted is very high SATs, etc., most of these kids are getting offers from very high profile schools, Ivys, etc. but might be swayed by a full ride from USC, which is why USC needs to get in the game earlier for those students. And those students are required (I think) to attend an on-campus interview for the scholarship, so the school needs time to get that done before students make their decisions about where to attend. There should be a letter in your youSC portal that describes what is happening. And by the way, none of this has any bearing on the National Merit Finalist scholarships, other scholarships that are out there or financial aid.
I agree with ^^ for the most part, but I believe the number of SCA finalists is higher than mentioned. My guess is they invite about 20-26 for Trustee/Stamps/Mork interviews and about 34ish for Presidential. These are divided up by major (IMGD, Screenwriting, Animation, Production, Critical Studies, et al). Good luck to all.
Thanks for the great info. This made me feel better!
So were people who were just admitted into SCA admitted because of stellar academics or for artistic abilities that SCA really was looking for?
Thought I’d introduce myself here! I applied to Film and Television Production major at USC. This is probably my #1 school, or Columbia, but I’m not getting into either. I have relatively lower merit when compared to the average USC acceptance. SAT was 1890 combined and ACT was 30. I’m attempting to get in based on talent rather than merit though, but I’m not sure how it’ll be. My essays and creative writing pieces are very strong, as that’s something I know I excel at. I, personally, like my video submission, but I also have my doubts as anyone would. If anyone wants to see it I can post the link on here. Final question, is there a Facebook group for USC SCA 2020 hopefuls?
@irburgat I’d love to see your vid! My D applied as well. I don’t know about a FB group for hopefuls though.
@irburgat I’d love to see your submission video! I applied this year too! Here is my video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aBSyVW2eB8
@filmdreamer23 That was amazing! Great work
@40yearoldvirgin Wow, thanks so much!
Hey, guys! Let’s get a conversation going for all the people who applied to USC SCA this year! We can all support each other and update each other on admissions decisions! Has anyone heard anything from SCA yet? Also make sure to write what major you applied for. I applied for Film Production.
@filmdreamer23 your submission video was amazing, great job! i hope you get in
I applied for film production. Did anyone else apply for the scholarships on slideroom? Like the George Lucas one
