USC SCA Interviews

So one of my friends got a call recently to interview with SCA, and just had the interview today. From what I've read on CC from the past, a lot of ppl who are contacted around now by SCA to interview seem to be admitted.

I havent been contacted about an interview or anything, so does that mean I am not going to get in? Do they still contact people about interviews, or have they all been "sent out"?

Anyone know more know about the subject that can comment on it?

Thanks.

they're talking about it here:

your certainly talking about the graduate program right?

no, i'm talking about the undergraduate program. my friend is a high school senior like me, and he got an email asking him to interview with SCA over the phone.

i don't know if it is just for the film production major or not (i applied to interactive entertainment) but im just really nervous since i didn't get any such email asking for an interview. hopefully that doesnt mean ive been rejected...

Don't worry! Many students who were accepted last year (some into both choices of majors) never interviewed. My word of wisdom is to call the program to which you applied and make sure that your application is complete. (You are informed when it's complete for general USC admissions, but this doesn't mean that all of your forms and essays have made it into one file at SCA.)

Don't lose sleep over it! I like Nester's idea--call them on the pretext of making sure your application was complete, and maybe you can gather some intell on where they're at in the process.

It wasn't a pretext! Turns out, all the material was there, but it wasn't collated, and if not for the call, the application (marked as incomplete) wouldn't have been considered.

Can I still call now or is it too late?

ranganz, you can call now. It's only around 3pm in L.A. Call the Interactive Media admissions rep (not the main admissions for USC) and ask if you app was received and complete. If they say yes, I'd suggest you mention in your nice, nonconfrontational way that one of your friends had a phone interview with Production and is IM also doing phone interviews or... what might she tell you about that whole interview thing...? If you do it sincerely, you might just get some info. I don't recall them doing phone interviews at all last year for UG SCA, but I did speak with a professor on the admission panel who said they were thinking of adding it for Production. Hmm.. Let us know! And good luck.

Shoot, I just called them before reading your post madbean, and I just kinda asked if they recieved my materials. They told me they recieved all my materials, and my application is under review. So at least that is somewhat good news. But that extra info would have been really nice.

Also, I did ask when I can expect a decision, and they said during the month of April. But I thought only rejections come out in April (a fact I have read on this site), so could that mean I am rejected for sure? Nerveracking, I tell you.

Now I'm worried that they have all of my materials.

Do you think I should call? - What did you say when you called?

"Hi. This is so and so. I'm an applicant for the such and such and so and so majors as a freshman. I just wanted to check and make sure that all of my materials and X number of letters of recommendation had arrived, and that my file is complete."

Followed by "thank you very much" or "would it be possible for me to fax you copies of the missing materials right now/later today? The materials were sent on such and such date, but I have copies right here."

My daughter did not hear from the film production committee until she was accepted in March. She was not interviewed nor did she receive notification that her materials were complete. We just sat tight.
Good luck!

On the other hand, my son (now a freshman in production) was phoned, and chatted with a professor for 10 minutes. Maybe he was on the bubble and that clinched it, who knows? And that came about 2-3 weeks before he got his acceptance in the mail, which came on March 21.

daaad, was your S freaked about getting that phone interview? So glad it all worked out! LOL. And to everyone still waiting--just hang in there.

i got a phone interview on thursday night. It lasted about 15 minutes. I have already been accepted to USC with NMF half tuition but i am still waiting to hear back from SCA

That's gotta be a good sign, thejobe. Good luck.
Madbean, my S was a little freaked by the call, but since it went well he came to view it as a positive thing. As I recall, he got a msg from the guy, so there were a few moments of panicked preparation before he called him back.

Hey everyone,

This is my first post on here, but I've gotten a lot of great information just reading these forums, so, thanks for that.

Anyway, my question is, has anyone received a phone interview and NOT been admitted? I receieved one last week, and she did say "We're calling some of our top applicants to get a better feel of who they are", but I'm rather nervous. I live in Texas, but, I happened to be in LA when I received the call, so I went to USC and sat in on the first screening of the Undergraduate thesis films. It was a great experience. I guess I'm just wondering what EXACTLY that phone call meant. Any input?

LifeLike, what major are you applying for?

Production (B.A.)
