We received the invitation to the USC SCend Off. It sounds great, but my son will be out of town the date of the local event. My husband and I thought of attending the local event and then possibly taking our son to an out of town event when he is back home. Can anyone tell us about the USC Scend Off event?

This may be an "urban legend"--but my daughter heard a story of an alum in Texas who hosted a SCend Off event, and announced that he would give all of the students present a $1000 scholarship!

They are a lot of fun. A nice party and pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon in what is a kind of slow time, early August, while you are counting down the days until school starts. Nothing that can't be missed if something more important is going on.

The SC Alumni Club of Atlanta hosts a SCendoff Party in August. I can only tell you about the one held here. I imagine each area's event is slightly different.
The afternoon event was held in the spacious garden of a gorgeous home near the Governor's Mansion in Buckhead. Decorations included cardinal and gold balloons, banners, posters, table decorations, steamers and welcome signs. It was a family event with Atlanta alumni acting as hosts.
Also, there were three partial scholarships awarded to incoming students from the club. Refreshments were served with plenty of sweet tea!
I think the best part of the afternoon was the huge welcome given the incoming students. Each new student was introduced to great applause. Young alumni and parents of current students were available to answer questions. There was plenty of time for incoming students to become acquainted with each other.
The parents I met appeared happy to see the large number of alumni who attended and the efforts made to welcome new freshmen into the Trojan Family.

Georgia Girl: Thank you for your information. It sounds like a wonderful event.
