For those of us who did not get into the Presidential/Trustee scholarship, would we have been notified of other possible scholarships in the acceptance letter we received today, or will it be sent out later?

bumppitty-bump

I am wondering the exact same thing! maybe my post will bump this up to the front page and someone can answer because I haven’t heard about anyone getting any of the smaller scholarships with their acceptance

same! i want to know if there are other small scholarships because i really want to go to USC but they haven’t said anything!!!

oh and does anyone know if the leadership award was given out?

I don’t know how they will do it this year, but my sons got separate envelopes to notify them of additional merit scholarships. S1 was awarded a University Scholarship ($2500/year) on top of the Trustee and we were shocked. S2 was awarded a special fellowship from his School (SCA). They came a week following regular admissions packets–I think. Maybe others can remember better than I do. Hang in there.

My daughter checked her usconnect and financial aid was there with a small but very nice scholarship for fall and spring semesters.

We are in the same boat. There is a small grant noted online. We are hoping for something more to make SCA a viable option. Now that DS is ‘IN,’ his excitement is evident. He was keeping it pretty tamped down, before.

Problem is we have a lot of equity/very little debt and middle class incomes. I gather that’s not a good set-up for receiving help at a CSS school like USC. If only we’d spent like drunken sailors over the years, like our neighbors with their HELOCS, LOL!

We are thankful that son has another great fit school w/generous scholarship in the bag, but we’d love him to be able to truly choose between USC SCA and the other college in a fair fight (where $ didn’t play a leading role). :)

gladiatorbird, your S is in such great shape. First, he’s clearly among the most talented applicants to get so many admits. And he’s already delighted with an affordable option. But, as I am rooting for you always, I hope USC can be a top contender.

Last year, our S was very tamped down too. Until he got admitted to USC SCA. Then, it was clear all other choices were not for him anymore. It was a very difficult choice (for us) due to the same considerations so many middle income families must face. So I truly commiserate with everyone waiting for news.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Madbean. I appreciate your past SCA dilemma now, very personally, right here in my gut.
Best to everyone…:)

I guess the painful part of the equation is that we have little in savings. Husband was diagnosed with bone cancer ten years ago (at age 39!) when DS was only five. So, while we’ve managed ourselves well (accrued no debts/paid down our house), we could not put away $ for college. Husband’s multiple surgeries have left him unable to work for 6 months at a time (as recently as 2008/09). CSS and other data sets don’t take any of this into account. Our equity may well slay us and DS as far as USC is concerned.
We shall see. I remain hopeful.
Thanks for the input!

If anyone receives notice one of the secondary, smaller merit scholarships, please post here, OK? Or any special SCA/other program fellowships (like the one our very own madbean mentions above). It seems that a few lucky kiddos might receive these separately in the coming week or two (in the wake of acceptance packets).
Thanks and good luck to all!!!

I’ve also been admitted to SCA for film (so excited!!). Congrats to your son gladiator
I was wondering, I received a very generous grant on the USC portal (which I’m very grateful for). But are you saying that it’s possible to still receive scholarships in the upcoming weeks? Or is it pretty much it if USC has sent me an email saying my financial aid has been updated (with the grant)?
Also, how common are film scholarships?
Thanks!!!

I was wondering the same thing as well, KitKat. Is there only one email about financial aid - the “updated” one - or is there an email to come that indicates that the award is finalized.

Very disappointed. We have about $10K in equity (first time buyers five years ago) and I have been diagnosed with a progressive autoimmune disease. There is no guarantee that I will even continue to work so to take on debt that will be over 100K is just not going to happen.

Even when I did the calculator online at the USC site it estimated 18K in need based aid, yet the award has no need based aid indicated. The scholarship she was awarded helps, yes, and is very generous, yes, but the remaining amount is just too excessive.

It is such a roller coaster of emotion, isn’t it?

I didn’t apply for financial aid, so how will I know if I got one of the smaller scholarships?

I’m so sorry, thats a horrible position to be in
I really hope we’ll get some more info soon!

When/how do we find out about the presidential scholarships? will they let us know if we did not get one? we have not gotten anything in the mail yet : (

@Friend1 This might come a little late but have you checked the USConnect financial award page?

Also, has anyone received a smaller scholarship these past couple of ? If so, how did you find out?

Received a University scholarship worth $2000/yr this morning. Try checking your USConnect page! They didn’t email me anything yet.
