How heavily does community service weigh in these scholarships?

For all who received the Dean’s Scholarship, congratulations! Do you guys mind telling us where you live and what dates you have for ExploreUSC? Thanks!

It seems like these are the strange second round acceptances. Are all of you on the West Coast? I too got an acceptance package but I haven’t received this letter yet. Should I be expecting it?

I’m in Maryland, and my Explore dates are what I’m assuming are the generic ones (don’t know if there is such a thing, haha just a guess though): April 7, 11, 14, 18, and 21

I guess I’m not even a Dean’s scholar? I got the no scholarship letter today…

^that can’t be right… D: if i were you i would have your guidance counselor contact your admissions person. another school made a mistake with my scholarship consideration and it was fixed to some extent when my counselor discovered the issue. good luck :/

My daughter ec’d her Dean’s Scholarship letter in the mail today (1/31). She rec’d the acceptance packet last Friday (1/28) with no other mention of any scholarship at that time. We live in Los Angeles and were overjoyed to receive this news today !

Daughter’s Explore date choices were: April 07, April 11, April 14, April 18, and April 21. She chose April 7th.

bigkev- got the same letter today :l … on the bright side theres still hope:)

^BigKev, I didn’t start posting to the USC forums until relatively late in the game. It sounds like just about everybody here is surprised that you didn’t get selected for one of the big scholarships. Can I ask? … What do you think accounts for the oversight? I saw your gpa and SAT on one of your posts, not too long ago. They’re very good. And I’m assuming you have several EC’s, and leadership, and other things as well. Were your essays good? I don’t know much about you, obviously, but your predicament is definitely thought-provoking. Any ideas?? Or are you still too “raw” to even consider that question? If so, I’m sorry. I’m really curious about the disparity… and I’m sorry if you weren’t duly recognized.

I received my Dean’s letter yesterday and my admission packet last week.

For those of you who received a letter saying that you did not receive a scholarship, what does your status on USConnect say?

I applied by the December 1st deadline but still did not receive anything in the mail! I’m beginning to worry.

What led me to believe that I would be selected for a scholarship was that my stats are right along with and better than some of those who were selected, and my ECs were not light either. I played two varsity sports, had all of the typical volunteer work, some leadership, etc. My essays I thought were quite good as well, and they revealed a personal family situation which I thought definitely qualified as some of the “non-statistical” qualities that scholarship recipients typically have if they didn’t have spectacular stats. I won’t go into detail, but I had a pretty serious family crisis when I was not even five years old, which led me to my chosen path.

An interesting thing to note is that my USC admissions counselor has not responded to any of my e-mails thus far, which I find odd, when I see others have regular responses from their counselors. I’m sure it is a very busy time right now, so I’ll wait another week before jumping to conclusions, but I am definitely worried that maybe USC just doesn’t want me at all.

BigKev, don’t assume that. I feel like a hypocrite saying that, since in my mind I am always reading into the little things (such as application status messages…) and thinking too much about them. Thing is, every college seems to have what they are “looking for,” and this can even differ from admissions officer to admissions officer. I’ve heard lots of stories about how people would get flat out rejected from Yale or Princeton, but then be taken in enthusiastically by Harvard. All are obviously great schools, but what really makes you “not good enough” at one but good at the other is completely unclear. That said, you obviously would not be in the “not good enough” pile. I do think that Dean’s came back last week, and I luckily got one myself (though affording USC still seems kind of daunting right now). However, acceptances come back through March, and you will likely be among those accepted. Even after the Dean’s, Presidential, and Trustee Scholarships, alamemom said there are tons of others that might also come with your offer of admission.

But don’t worry too much. USC Admissions is busy, and probably doesn’t have a lot of time to respond to everyone’s emails, so I would give it some time. It’s nervewracking, yes, I was with you as everyone else got P and T interviews, and we didn’t. And all of us HS seniors right now are in the same boat waiting for those decisions to get back to us in March and April. I would say keep your spirits up. There actually is not much that you can do in your power right now to change this. But, as many others would agree with me, you are a STRONG applicant, probably even stronger than I was, so if I could get in, then you should be no problem.

Good luck with everything. With all due respect to USC, but if they decide to reject you, then it would be their loss…

Which dates are you going? i wanna meet some people on cc :D

the first trustee date!! in about two weeks. a few of us acceptees have already begun chatting on the fb group =]

Has anyone else who applied by the December 1st deadline still waiting to receive any notification (whether being considered or not for scholarship) in the mail?

Anxiety is wonderful. : (

Hi interpdance, I haven’t heard anything yet and I applied by the Dec 1st deadline. Haven’t heard whether I’ve received one or not…I’m trying not to worry but I know how difficult it is! Anyone else compulsively checking their mailbox?

i got a half tuition nmsc scholarship offer, can i still get one of the 10000 dollar ones?

No, they can’t be combined - you would get the higher one.

Would you mind saying when you received the NMSC presidential offer? I’m waiting for my decision, and I’m a NMF.
