USC Scholarship results notification date?

sindarlod what are some of your stats?

ibmx92,

I have a 4.0 GPA (UW) and a 34 ACT. So similar stats to other people posting. Of course I have other things factoring into my application, but in terms of scores and such, others and I are right on track!

Fight on!!

Hey guys, I don’t know if this will help your concern with the status update, but my status changed as well and I am not a particularly competitive applicant. I believe that was a blanket update for everyone, so I see no reason for you guys to be alarmed. I just thought I’d drop in to let you guys know so that you could have a bigger perspective on things, and maybe not be so concerned about your status lol. My stats are 3.8 W/2210 but I am not expecting to be interviewed. Good luck to all of you who are though! I hope everyone in this thread gets a nice package in their mailbox next week :)

i have the same message. i wouldnt read into it. chances are we will hear in a week or two.
so guys dont fret on it!! you will find out soon enough! you dont have to check your status 20 times a day!

Haha yes it could be blanket update. The only thing that was concerning was how some people were stuck at “completed preliminary review” while others were “forwarded for committee review.” Now that we have all calmed down a bit, it does sound kind of ambiguous–maybe the committee is a prelim review? I don’t know, and I doubt many others do either.

And for those stuck at prelim the worrying thing was that they haven’t even officially looked at the app. Just a preliminary look, not even a real look. But now all of our statuses have changed back to the same thing, and we are all in the same boat now (I think)

I just checked my application and I received the new status message as well. This is getting to be so exciting yet so nerve wracking! Good luck to everyone, hope we all receive good news within the next couple of weeks!

mine changed too! hmmmmm.

There have been many posts this week about notification dates. I wanted to add here that theatre and music applicants for certain scholarships will not be notified until after the schools have considered their auditions. Auditions for these two schools take place through early February. Portfolio reviews for certain majors also are not completed.

Music and theatre applicants have a longer wait.

I’m just going to wait it out now until, and have a nice surprise if I get a nice package in the mail from sunny Los Angeles.

In the meantime, I have a Yale interview to go to next Sunday. Hopefully it will be practice for a bigger and better interview in a month. Fight on!

Oh…and go Packers!

What information usually comes in acceptance letters? Is it just a general letter or will they also provide information on housing, enrolling, orientations…etc (or do those come later)? Just wondering, thanks!

Last evening I found an article from last spring regarding admissions in the Daily Trojan newspaper. It stated the USC admit rate was lowered by a very small percentage for the incoming 2010 class. The article said the AVERAGE SAT score rose by 20 points, students had taken more difficult classes and ECs included more honors and awards.

In my opinion, I am expecting the class admitted for the 2011-2012 year to be even more competitive.

As soon as we hear of anyone receiving an admission notification it will be posted on this board.

The admissions packet includes a certificate of admission, a housing brochure and instructions, a financial aid brochure, an orientation brochure and schedule, and a “Welcome to USC” brochure.

Once admitted, you can make your housing deposit (only $30, and it is a VERY good idea to get it in even if you are not sure you will attend) and sign up for an “Explore” session (Explore is not orientation - it is when they roll out the red carpet for admitted students to try to convince them to attend USC).

All admitted students will have until May 1st to make their enrollment deposit, so don’t feel rushed - consider all options carefully.

Good luck!!!

Thanks, Alamemom. That was just what I was looking to know. =D

Yesterday the status for my D changed to …
We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. If you have not already done so, please submit your final, fall term marks when they become available. You may submit them at USConnect by clicking “mid-year grade reports”, or by visiting www.usc.edu/midyeargrades. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will mail a written request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly.

Does this mean a decision has been made and letter is on its way as we had applied for Dec 1st deadline for scholarship?. or will get delayed

I’m pretty sure everyone has that status now. Even the people who originally had a “forwarded” status now show what you have.

I think USC is just being purposely cryptic about it this year. We probably won’t know anything until the packages start arriving. There’s nothing we can do about it now, anyways ;)

I have the same message! does anybody know if I would have a higher chance of getting into SC because I have two generations of legacy?! my gpa is about a 3.8 uw and my sats low (about 1910) and i have several ecs

That status does not mean that a letter is on its way. That status appears to be a global change - if you take a look at post #1063 on the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/990410-usc-2011-transfer-thread-71.html</a> , you will see that even transfer applicants have the very same status, and there is no way their letters are on the way - their applications are not even due until February 1st, and they will not hear until June 1st.

I know this is a CRAZY idea, but a close reading of the status MIGHT mean that:
-your application has been received and is complete
-you should submit mid-year grades when you get them
-you will hear by April 1st

:)

But see, if you will hear by April 1st subtly suggests that you WON’T hear by February, which is what all the scholarship applicants are hoping. =) I think that’s why people are so jittery about the status (including me).

Hello folks,
Couldn’t keep myself out for long - this whole affair about status changes is obviously contagious and has made those cliched butterflies grow into adult moths churning up my innards… Oh well, basically, I’m international, from Middle East, and the way things stand right now, I’m beginning to doubt whether January will hold any sweet surprises at all for a USC hopeful living halfway around the world… Anyway, do hope to stay in touch through this little portal with all of you …
And yes, to add to the above ^^, the ‘1st April’ date that USC keeps emphasizing really is making things so utterly frustrating…

And just to confirm - I’m guessing these lines are familiar to most of you (applicants) ?
…“Our comprehensive admission file review process takes a considerable amount of time. We will be working closely with the USC Office of Admission reviewing complete applications submitted. Be sure to watch your mail and email throughout the next few months. The university will contact you if information is missing, incomplete or if new info is needed. Admission decisions will be released no later than the beginning of April.” …
-and-
“We look forward to reviewing your application for Fall 2011.”

Right- that was a snippet from an email that USC (Viterbi, to be specific) sent me the very day my status changed to the ‘forwarded for committee review’ … and oh boy it sure did nothing to help me sleep peacefully… especially the last line … :frowning: … and yes, needless to say, I had applied by Dec 1st 2010…
