Just wanted to vent...

I JUST realized that the other USC Scholarships (i.e. Town & Gown, Alumni Asso.) needed an additional application that was due by December 1st. GRRRR!!!

Why was this information so cryptic?! Oh well, I suppose if I do get in I will now NEVER forget to apply for years to come. Still, such a bummer I did not see this until now.

That is all. Good luck to everyone and hopefully some of you saw this BEFORE the Dec. 1 deadline. ;)

fervor,

Take a deep breath. There are many scholarships given in addition to the Trustee, Dean’s and other well known scholarships. I know there are scholarships designated for incoming freshmen by particular schools such as Marshall. Other scholarships are given for leadership/and or merit.

About 22% of the students at SC receive some sort of merit scholarships. Have you investigated merit/need scholarships in your local area? These may be given by churches, temples, civic organizations or ethnic groups. There are sites on the internet where you can search for scholarships.

A student from my area in Georgia was proactive about scholarships and had four before she entered in the fall.

@fervor,
My son used the following chart (see link) to determine what he had to submit, and when he had to submit it, for scholarships. The way we interpreted the chart, the scholarships he was eligible for (and interested in) did not require any additional scholarship application. You basically just had to submit your undergraduate application by December 1. I hope we interpreted that correctly!!!

SimpleLife, the scholarships FervorFemme mentions - Town and Gown and Alumni clubs - DID require additional applications, as do several others on the linked list. Only the first 9 scholarships (Trustee through Transfer Merit) on that list do not require additional applications. Some deadlines have not yet passed, such as the Norman Topping Student Aid Fund and the MAAA, so anyone who thinks they may be eligible should double-check the deadlines.

^Ah. Yes. That’s exactly how we interpreted the chart. Thanks, alamemom! :)

Georgia Girl: Thanks for the info. I was “having a moment.” haha USC is my dream school (I felt at home from the first time I walked on campus) so my emotions are running a bit high.

I have been looking into scholarships in my area and will continue to do that. It is GREAT to hear that USC Marshall has scholarships for incoming freshman…my ultimate dream is to get into the BCA program and also some aid along the way. I am crossing everything I can for that!

p.s. I myself grew up in Georgia…nice to know some good ol’ southern girls reside at SC. :)

Fervor,
Did you apply by the Dec. 1 deadline for the more well known scholarships? If you know financial aid will be needed do make certain you read alamemom’s thread and have your parents read the suggested book. No matter what college you end up attending knowledge is always valuable. Apply by the deadline for financial aid, if needed, and be sure all supporting and required documents are in on time!

There is a very long post I wrote about scholarships for continuing students. Alumni and friends of SC do realize a private college education is expensive! You should be able to find this using the search function. If you do attend and shine in the classroom there are scholarships to help for leadership, service and or need/merit. These will be competitive, but some have limited applicant pools due to donor requirements.

I am from a Trojan family. SC was my dream school as well. Good luck!
