USC Scholarships: Trustee, Presidential, and Dean's

So, we all know that if you're a NMSF and advance to Finalist status, you automatically get money from USC. However, the other scholarships (Trustee, Presidential, and Dean's) seem to be by invitation only and are more exclusive - especially the first. Have ALL the letters notifying candidates of these scholarships already been sent out? (IE- if we haven't gotten a letter about those three yet, does that basically mean that we don't qualify? Or do they send you a letter saying you won't get a Trustee/Presidential/Dean's scholarship?)

I think not necessarily to the first question, and yes to the second.

I don’t think all of the early acceptances for all of the big scholarships have been sent out yet. Maybe they have for the Trustee’s scholarships, because the interview dates for that are coming up quite quickly. But I think that perhaps not all of the Presidential acceptances/letters have gone out, though that may just be wishful thinking on my part. :)

There is, however, a letter that has gone out letting some applicants know that they are not being considered for the Trustee or Presidential scholarships, and should submit their mid-year grades and wait until late March/April to hear back. However, the applicants may still be eligible for/receive other scholarships, just not one of those two. There’s a whole thread about that letter here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/858946-those-waiting-update-letter-received-admission-today.html

The letter has made its way over to the East Coast.

Haha, kay  Thanks for the insight!

Fuzzybunny,
If you do become a National Merit Scholar you do not just receive " money". You receive half tuition for the entire four years at SC. This is providing you name SC as your first choice university (can be done in April), maintain a 3.0 GPA and take a required number of units each semester. In addition, you will receive $1,000 per year from the NMFoundation.

Have you applied for financial aid? IF SC determines you qualify for aid in addition to the scholarship funds you will also be receiving aid each term.

Once at SC there are many, many scholarships available for continuing students. These are competitive, but if you are an outstanding student you may be the recipient of another scholarship as you progress through your major.
