This morning, I got the mail and found a postcard inviting me to the SDA Open House on April 9.
I’ve heard of this postcard from past years, but doesn’t it typically come in late March?
Does this mean anything?

I got one too! I hope it means something! Did you apply BFA or BA?
@Genny4701 I applied for BFA! you?
My D is a freshman SDA BA. She got the card last year too. It has always meant that you can expect to be admitted to SDA, though not necessarily as a BFA.
My D got one today too. I don’t think it is the same type of postcard as the one my S got a few years ago which came after auditions. So I’m not sure if this is “The” postcard. (I hope it is though). The other seemed more like an invitation rather than save the date.
I got it too! I really hope it means something. I applied to the BA.
The “postcard” that students have received in the past before decisions were released, received them in March and it had the words invitation somewhere in it. I think everyone gets the save the date card and after auditions some will get the invite, which seems to signify an admission decision is following soon. The wait is definitely frustrating and it’s hard trying to read the tea leaves.
But if yours says invitation then you are in good shape.
It doesn’t say invitation. It says “save the date.” I guess I got excited for nothing LOL!
Thanks for the responses everyone! I think it’s safe to say this postcard isn’t particularly significant. I just realized that most in-person auditions haven’t even happened yet!!
May I ask if you guys put BA as your second choice? It could mean that we may have been accepted into the BA program (since it doesn’t require an audition), but that just me being optimistic. I guess we will really find out in a two months! Good luck everyone!
I got this postcard as well! At first I made nothing of it because I haven’t auditioned yet. However, I did put BA as my second option. Now I’m being thrown for a loop because all I read about is The Postcard invitation (apparently usually sent out in mid-March?) but this guy doesn’t say on it “invitation”, but instead simply “Save the Date”. What a tease!
My son received “the postcard” last March. It said the Dean “cordially invites you to attend the USC School of Dramatic Arts Open House”. It required an RSVP to the listed email.
He did get a save the date after auditions too, but that is was not “the postcard”.
Keep your spirits up. The save the date likely does not mean you are in, but it also does not mean you are out.
Daughter is a current junior, USC Dramatic Arts BA student. USC School of Dramatic Arts has an interim dean and so things may be a little different than in past years. Back then we did not receive a Save The Date postcard in January. Daughter received an invitation in March for family to attend the spring musical (in April) and an open house where students had small, short classes with current instructors, It is a wonderful day, organized, informative, top notch. Admissions advisers from SDA were there. They served a nice lunch. The Dean was there as well. Students that performed in the musical mingled with students after the show to answer questions as well.
Technically, at that time, the students were told on the invitation that it was not an indication of acceptance because the invitation arrived at least a month before the the official acceptance packets. But past posts have said that it is a “good sign”. So if you DO receive an invitation to the spring musical (A Little Night Music), look at it as a positive sign. If you are considering USC School of Dramatic Arts it is a day not to be missed!
I need to make you aware that IF the date that is selected is April 9 or 10 make sure you arrive early for parking. SDA will probably give you parking suggestions. I believe it is the first weekend of the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books http://events.latimes.com/festivalofbooks/ which is held on USC’s campus.
Best of luck to all. My daughter LOVES the program and being a students at USC. She has had many wonderful acting opportunities and great instructors. If you receive an invitation to the Open House don’t miss it
Okay. So just to clarify. Everyone who auditioned for the BA or BFA THIS YEAR got a “save the date" postcard in February, but no one has gotten the fancy pants RSVP invitation yet?
@LittleEdy I have read others have gotten the save the date but not all. Did they ask for additional information like your parents tax forms for fa?
Don’t they ask for FA for everyone regardless of admission decision?
Yes. I got the Save the Date postcard, the request for mid year grades, and reminder to give parent financials, but I think everyone gets this stuff. “The” postcard mentioned in this thread and others is the more formal open house invitation with an RSVP. I have not gotten that, but wasn’t sure if anyone else had.
