Has anyone received an invitation to the USC SDA open house which is in April?
There is rumor that if you receive this that you are accepted! HOWEVER- D never received this and was admitted-
chose not to attend…But it is a glimmer of good luck your way!
@sjftig I have been trying to find this out to. It sounds like many got the “Save the date” in January, but not the more formal invitation that has previously come in March.
Last year (and in prior years) the “save the date” card sent out in January did not correlate to acceptance. Most people who audition/applied seemed to get it. The “open house” invitation came about a week before the decisions.
My son received the “open house postcard” last year in late March. It said the Dean “cordially invites you to attend the USC School of Dramatic Arts Open House”. It required an RSVP to the listed email on the card. Actually it was a postcard in a small envelope. Getting the invitation to the open house just before decisions are due correlates well with acceptance. Everyone who received it was accepted. HOWEVER not getting the postcard does not mean you are out of the running. For whatever reason, there are always a couple of people who are accepted who never got the open house postcard. Not sure if they got lost or what happened, but not getting a postcard should not make you loss hope.
Keep your spirits up. You will know soon enough.
I think most of us are just so curious whether they were sent this year. No one has said they received it. Either they aren’t posting on CC or USC hasn’t sent. I’d just love to know which.
D just received large envelope from USC (well, box, really) on front door step (haven’t opened it) and a small envelope from USC SDA (which I did open) inviting her to open house. There is a note on the bottom of the invite that says “An invitation to the USC School of Dramatic Arts Open House does not constitute admission into the University of Southern California or the School of Dramatic Arts” I’m thinking big envelope is good news. Just thought I’d share if that helps anyone. Oh, and we’re in LA area so mail would be fast.
This happens every year, and every year the people who get invited get in…so congratulations!
@jbeansmom do you mind me asking stats of your S and was the acceptance for BFA or BA ? Thanks and congratulations ?
@Jkellynh17 Thanks! @Usccurious she let me open the package and she got into the BA – BFA was 1st choice. Still exciting and a nice option, but looks like she’s heading elsewhere.
@jbeansmom did your D get the save the date postcard earlier ? This is s my last school we are waiting for… Got into 8 schools but SC close to home… Are you in the OC ?
What was her GPA/SAT scores of you don’t mind me asking
@Usccurious She received the package and the SDA Open House invite both today. We are north of LA.
@rz1997 Her gpa is 4.2ish weighted and SAT 2210.
My daughter got the postcard and her acceptance into the BFA program today.
Oh wow congrats! Where do you live, Which program and what was her GPA/SAT?
Did they send the acceptances out at the same time as the deny letters? My D received the save the date card in Jan.
My D was accepted today to the BA program. Although she auditioned for BFA, she loves the school and the theatre program. She’s going to USC! Fight On!
@Frazzy, congrats!
Well I can now tell you that the “Save the Date” postcard postmarked 1-22-16 does not mean anything. Even though we got the postcard, my daughter has many good choices, (8 so far to be exact), but USC is not one of them. So in the future, if you are reading this thread, do not get your hopes up with this postcard. It does not mean a thing, except that you were under serious consideration perhaps (I don’t know for sure because I don’t know if everyone gets it). By reading this thread, I think that they are sending the USC SDA open house invitations out later now, closer to when you get the acceptance packet or in some cases, the same day as the acceptance packet.
The decisions are now online, even though they said noon today PST.
@SATANICRABBITMOM, congratulations on having 8 good choices for your daughter. I am sure that she will pick a great program and thrive.
For those reading about the “postcard” in the future: there have traditionally been two postcards the applicants might get from USC SDA. One is a “save the date” the arrives early in the calender year. It is not “the postcard” that usually correlates to admission. “The postcard” that does correlate to admission from SDA arrives just a few days before official decisions are sent (this year it seems they often arrived on the same day). This one is actuall not so much a postcard, but rather a cardboard stock invitation in a small envelope. I states you are invited to the SDA open house and requires an RSVP to the listed email or website.
For many years now, getting this open house invitation right before the decisions are sent has correlated with acceptance to SDA. However, every year some students never got the invitation, but did get admitted so not getting it does not mean you won’t get admitted. No one that received the open house invitation (as I described it above) has posted on this forum that they did not get accepted.
Recap: the “save the date” postcard does not indicate admission or denial and arrives early in the process (usually shortly after auditions). It is a traditional postcard and not in an envelope. Getting it or not does not correlate with acceptance or denial.
The “open house” invitation is cardboard stock in a small envelope and arrives shortly before admission packages (this year even on the same day). This one requires you RSVP to the open house if you plan to attend. It also say this invitation is not an offer of acceptance. Not getting it does not guarantee a denial as every year some are admitted and did not get it. Of those that did get, all who have posted here did get admitted.
