USC SDA Open House Invites 2018

Hey! I’m a Freshman applicant into the Stage Management BFA and just got a save the date for the April Open House. I assume this is a good sign? (Starting this thread for this years prospective applicants)

My S (auditioned for BFA Acting) got this postcard today, too. From searching threads from previous years, it seems like one set of postcards goes out to all applicants in January/February. Another mailing with a personal open house invitation and RSVP went out in late March to accepted students a few days before they received their acceptances. No way to know for sure if the process is the same this year, though.

Wondering the same thing. Just got the open house invite mailer. It seems strange because we would have no interest in USC SDA on April 7th if we were rejected a week earlier.

I too have checked the past threads and agree that this is the first of two mailings. Looks like this one more than likely goes to all applicants. If the second one is received, it is supposed to be in an envelope with the postcard. It will also ask for a RSVP. And, @gulf1609 I totally agree that it is a little strange that this date is after acceptances have gone out. Perhaps an email version would be a nice route with this as it is a bit confusing!

Yes, I agree that it goes out to all applicants. My son got one today too and he actually withdrew his BFA acting application in December after he got in ED at another school.

Yeah, thinking it is the first postcard. The confusing thing is the timing. First postcard usually goes out in January and the “special postcard” in March. This one came out the end on February. Seems so strange to invite all applicants to attend faculty workshops, connect with faculty and students and to see West Side Story, all after auditions and decisions are out. I read another post that said the first email will say “save the date”. The special one will cordially invite you. This is a large postcard that says save the date and the USD SDA invites you to our open house. I’m chalking it up to just another cruel circumstance in this long, winding journey.

@gulf1609 I am right there with you!! And, this is such a long, and uncertain journey at this time! I do remember the Dean mentioning the April date at the info session and I thought to myself how nice if you are accepted! Looking at the postcard, I also notice it cost .47 cents to send! I think there were 1400 applicants, so that is strange too! Oh well, just another day in this crazy process. Hang in there and best of luck to your family!

My friend and I both applied for the BFA acting and we both got the postcard yesterday. Seems unlikely that it means anything.

Did anyone get the email today regarding the decision dates and the open house? Could this be the equivalent of the “you are admitted” special postcard this year?

My son received an email yesterday from USC entitled “USC School of Dramatic Arts ADMISSION UPDATE.” He ended up withdrawing his application in December and never auditioned. So, it probably doesn’t mean anything.

Agreed! Looks pretty standard! Good luck!

But it allows the student to rsvp (with 3 complimentary tickets to a show). I wonder if anyone who applied didn’t get this? (Perhaps a withdrawn application slipped through the cracks and isn’t treated like a rejected application)?

Okay, so now we know that the USC SDA decisions were Mailed today, right? How long does the mail take?

@FourStars Yes, mailed today the old fashioned way!!! The portals may be faster! It can take 5 days to get to our area!

For anyone next year reading this … the SDA postcard was NOT an indication of acceptance. My S was denied admission to USC SDA. We got the postcard on 2/22/18 and the follow up email with RSVP request but then received a rejection from USC.

For future years: It looks like SDA changed up the postcard this year. Previously, the Feb postcard was not an indication of admission, but a second postcard in March which asked for RSVP was a hint that good news would follow. This year it appears there was no second post card, and that an email which went out was no indication of acceptance.
